Team Contract

Every member of your team, and your professor, should have a copy
of this contract signed by every group member. Coloured text is for
explanations, so delete it as you work on your contract.

Team Member Principal Roles

(Following discussion, you should have a general idea of the principal

responsibilities of each group member. If some group members are
prepared to do most of the work, or to do the work assigned to others,
they should set that out here.)

Task Definition:

(Your task definition can be framed as the answer to, “once this group
has completed its task, what will we have? That might include a plan,
a presentation or some other project.)

contract until you are quite clear on what needs to be done and who is
charged with doing it.)

Team Performance Expectations

 Every team member shall, to the best of his/her ability:
o Strive to complete all assigned tasks before or by
deadlines
o Complete all tasks to the best of his/her ability
o Listen carefully and attentively to all comments at
meetings
o Accept and give criticism in a professional manner
o Focus on results before the fact, rather than excuses after
o Provide as much notice as possible of problems with
commitments
o Attend and participate in all scheduled group meetings

(To encourage maximum success on the task, it is important that all

members are fully aware of and committed to the expectations for the
group. Championship teams are usually those with the strongest
expectations for success and the willingness to work towards it. Start
with the above, work through and discuss each item, but add or delete
as your group sees fit.)

Your signature below confirms that you have read and agreed to these
terms. If you don’t plan to abide by them, advise your group and don’t
sign.

Unmet Expectations
When team members fail to live up the above expectations, it is
important that the group as a whole not be dragged down by their
lack of responsibility. Therefore,

 Any member who misses (insert number; 2 is good) meetings,

assignments or other key elements of the team effort shall be
deemed to have failed to meet the expectations agreed to above.
 The penalty for this failure is expulsion from the group, with
whatever consequences that might entail.

(This presumes participants meant what they said when they agreed
to the group’s expectations. If the group is not concerned about
performance, it may choose to allow members to repeatedly fail to
meet commitments, but remain in the group so that everyone can
share the consequences of weak performance.)

Our Commitment:

consequences set out above.
