 Like Amor, the Church has
many roles in continuing the
mission of Jesus.

 The Church is not alone but

made up of at least a billion
people doing various
functions, all contributing to
this mission of proclaiming
the Gospel to all.
Mission
of the
Church
The Greek word for
Church is “ekklesia” = Mission of
those who are called
forth.
the Church
 All of us who are
baptized and believe in
God are called forth by
the Lord.
 Together we are the
Church. Christ is, as Paul
says, the Head of the
Church. We are his body.
CHURCH: from the
Greek kyriake = Mission of
belonging to the Lord): the Church
consists of those called
together from all
nations (from Greek ex
kaleo, ekklesia)
who through Baptism
belong to the Body of
Christ.”
God wills the Church Mission of
because he wants to the Church
redeem us, not
individually, but
together.
He wants to make all
mankind his people.
No one gets to heaven Mission of
by the asocial route. the Church
Someone who thinks
only about himself and
the salvation of his own
soul is living a-socially.

That is impossible
both in heaven and on
earth.
God himself is not
a-social; he is not a Mission of
solitary,
self-sufficient being.
the Church
The Triune God in
himself is “social”, a
communion, an
“eternal exchange
of love.
Patterned after God,
man also is designed Mission of
for relationship, the Church
exchange, sharing, and
love.
We are
responsible
for one
another.
Mission of
The Church’s task is
to make the kingdom
the Church
of God, which has
already begun with
Jesus, germinate and
grow in all nations.
Mission of
Wherever Jesus went,
heaven touched earth:
the Church
the kingdom of God
was inaugurated, a
kingdom of peace and
justice.
The Church serves this
kingdom of God. She is
not an end in herself. Mission of
the Church
 She must carry on
what Jesus started.
 She should act as
Jesus would act.
 She continues the
sacred signs of
Jesus (the
Sacraments).
 She hands on Jesus’ Mission of
words.
the Church
That is why the
Church, for all her
weakness, is a
formidable bit of
heaven on earth.

Mission of
The Church fulfills the Church
the three-fold
mission of Jesus in
a delicate balance
of prayer and work
(ora et labora).
Luke 10:38-42
As they continued their
journey he entered a village
where a woman whose name
was Martha welcomed him.
She had a sister named Mary
(who) sat beside the Lord at
his feet listening to him
speak.
Luke 10:38-42
Martha, burdened with much
serving, came to him and
said, "Lord, do you not care
that my sister has left me
by myself to do the serving?
Tell her to help me."
Luke 10:38-42
The Lord said to her in reply,
"Martha, Martha, you are
anxious and worried about
many things. There is need of
only one thing. Mary has
chosen the better part and it
will not be taken from her."
We are invited to do Mission of
the same: the Church
 to help in the
mission of Jesus,
 do our
responsibilities,
 and balance all
these with
prayer and help LU K E
from others. 10:38 – 42
