Imagine that Auggie is going to join your class as a new pupil. What sort of things would you
say to make Auggie feel welcome? How could you show Auggie that you understand that he is
ordinary on the inside, just like you?

Underline all the incidents of bullying in red, and all the places where Auggie and Jack try to
stop the bullying in green.
In groups, write short catchphrases or rhyme to help you remember that bullying hurts and in
case of bullying, the anti-bullying strategies you can use.

Discuss the questions:
In Wonder, Auggie was judged by his appearance by many of the other characters until
they got to know him. Can you think of other characters from books and films who are
judged by their appearance?
Choose a couple of the most well-known characters that you have suggested. What
happens when people in these stories look beyond these characters’ appearance and
see who they are on the inside?
At home, look for images in newspapers or magazines in which you can see bullying situations.
In class work on the campaign: “STOP BULLYING”, preparing posters and leaflets to share with
all the students at school.
