Superimposing the Filipino Character in an Asian Perspective

Philippines and its people have been known all throughout the world because of our
character and our talents. In fact, we are celebrated in a lot of areas in entertainment and labor.
Slowly, we also have influenced the field of technology and sciences. We achieved this because
Filipinos are around the world and our country welcome foreigners from around the world. Our
ability to adapt to other culture and lands made our migration rates higher and our hospitable
character has showed foreigners the beauty that is Philippines. These, for me, has greatly
influenced our integration with Asian nations.

Migration has always been an option to us, Filipinos. It’s unfortunate that most of us are
willing to work for another country, but this has led to greater connections to other countries.
Economically, it has boosted the Philippines’ GDP. Not only that, Filipinos are immersed in
different cultures and other cultures recognize our unique Filipino values. Thus, we have
initiated in a conversation of melding cultures integrating different Asian nations to one another.

Another side of this coin is the tourism in Philippines. With our ongoing national tourism
slogan, “It’s more fun in the Philippines”, it has not only attracted tourists from around the Asia, it
has also exposed what’s ours to the world. This also opened avenues for market integration
across Asia where businesses cater to different nations visiting Philippines from their homeland,
and other nations contributing to the Filipino market.

These two strengths are, in my opinion uniquely Filipino. It doesn’t only show our
character as a nation, but it also represents the essence of Asia. We are as much part of Asia
as every other nation in it.
