In a strong posit ion be cause of more tha n 50 years' expe rien ce in the a rea of ther mochem ica l
treatments, the HEF Gr oup is the wor ld le ader in the area of l iquid ion ic Nit rocarb ur izing. THE
ARCOR™ belongs to this family and is a treatment invol ving therm o - chemi cal diffusion in sal t
baths with a passivation and a finishing treatment.

The var ious tr eatments patented and

marketed by the HEF Gr oup under the
names ARCOR®, TENIFER® , TUFFTRI DE®,
MELONITE®, NUTRIDE® or QPQ® are
grouped togethe r under the famil y nam e

Dry tribological properties of the porous layer

Good fri cti on prope rties
Improvement of surface chargeability of oil
Ceramic properties of the nitride layer which prevents adhesion by

The CLIN t reatments t ogether, and so the ARCOR, with the ass ociat ed industria l equ i pment, have
easily adapted themsel ves t o the var iou s envi ronmenta l and te chni cal constra int s and their
applicati ons are being devel oped all the ti me in our industry.

These treatments con ce rn mainly fer rous alloy s (steel, cast ir on, stainless steel , et c.) and are
carr ied out between 500°C and 630°C.

The aim of CLIN t reatments is, from a het erogene ous surface rea ction , to transfer i nto the so lid
metal alloy nitrogen and carbon atoms con tained in the molten salt.

Fol lowing the transfer of the nitrogen int o the steel, 2 very dist inct phases are obtain ed: :

C ou ch e -A laye r of ir on n itrides (basical ly Ɛ-Epsil on type but

de also ϒ'-Gamma pri me t ype) and nit ride s of al lo y
c ombin ais on
elements ca lled "combinat ion la yer ", whi ch has the
particula r feature of being surface porous,

Z on e
de -A diffusion zone below the combinat ion layer, i n
di f fus i on which nit rogen is present in s olid form b e tween the
iron (or all oy el ement) atoms.

The adjustment of the treatment paramete rs offers a very wide use range fr om the p oint of view
of mechanica l charact erist ics, tr ibol ogica l properti es or corr osion per formance .
