ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Prof. B.I.C Ijomah obtained his first degree in Sociology at the University
of Nigeria, Nsukka from 1960-1963, with Second Class Honours, Upper
Division. He obtained his Master and Directorate Degrees from the Prestigious
Northwestern University in the USA, in 1967 and 1969 respectively. He
lectured at the Northern University of Dekalb and Loyola University of Chicago
from 1969 to 1971. He returned to Nigeria and held the posts of Senior
Assistant Registrar and Senior Lecturer in Sociology. From 1977 to 1983, he
was in full Institutional Administration as the Registrar/Director of
Administration at Federal Polytechnic Jos and Federal University of Technology
Akure. He briefly held the position of Commissioner for Education in Bendel
State in 1983.
From 1984 to 2002, he was Professor of Sociology, and was at various
times the Head of Department of Sociology, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Social
Science, Dean of Graduate Schools at Bendel University, now Ambrose Alli
University Ekpoma.
He served the Federal Government in various capacities. He is a great
researcher and quantitative sociologist. He was the National Chairman of
Coastal Erosion Research, and Headed the Research in Nigeria, in collaboration
with Delft Hydraulics in Holland.
He retired from University service in 2002. He established the famous
Madonna International College at Asaba. He set up the Centre for Policy
Studies and Research at Asaba.
He has published prolificly in different areas of knowledge.
