ALITAPTAP

Alitaptap originated from the province of Batangas, Philippines. This folk dance is native to the
Tagalogs. This is usually danced by children. The term “alitaptap” refers to an insect called
fireflies which flies only at night and looks like it is carrying a lamp because of its light.

It is an imitative form of dance. It is an imitation of a firefly, a nocturnal wringed light-

producing insect, as it is delightful to see their flickering light. For the costume they commonly
wear “Balintawak” for girls and “Barong” for boys
