I Think Therefore I Am
Influential work of Descartes is well known among individuals who have a keen interest
conception that reflects the importance of thought process and regards human’s thinking ability
as a proof of existence. The cognitive process of reflection fosters doubts in the reality of
deception. In any case, when people doubt, they get to know hidden realities due to critical
thinking on the subject matter. Descartes regards this “critical thinking” as key to unveiling new
disapproval from other theorists due to the presence of other influences that determine the
objects’ existence.
“I think therefore I am” statement sets the basis for Descartes argument in the
philosophical world. To comprehend this philosophical notion, one has to put themselves in
Descartes’ shoes. He has tried to identify what could be known with full conviction. Descartes
assessed the detailed knowledge and proposed that nobody can know anything with complete
certainty. His attempt to search some realistic thing led him towards the conclusion that his
thinking ability itself is the proof of his existence. From this Archimedean Point, he built a new
body of knowledge about the existence of God and human beings. Descartes regards body and
mind as two separate and different entities. He proposes that thinking process doesn’t rely on the
physical body, and his existence would end with the seizure of his thought process. The presence
of the body is not sufficient proof that “I exist.” The body is divisible, non-thinking and extended
Philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche has criticized the Descartes notion by contending that
there is no proof of “I Exist” as he has not provided any reliable verification. Nietzsche argues
that there could be some other source for the thoughts coming in Descartes’s mind. In
consequence, “I exist.” lacks confirmation and the only certain thing is the presence of thoughts
(Appiah, 2003). David Hume has also criticized the Descartes’s view of perfection. His
statement “Perfection can only come from perfection” is a weak argument as it proposes that it is
impossible to visualize traits that are not present in oneself. His belief that the only way to
understand and accept the God is to magnify own qualities lacks clarity. According to it, a weak
person cannot visualize the powerful and influential figure, but in reality, such imagination is
Another common opposition to Descartes’ notion is that some giant evil figure might
make someone think that “he exists.” Descartes contends that doubt might occur as a result of a
dreaming state, misleading senses or the mischievous Deity. For instance, if God is deceiving
him; Descartes regards this act to cheat as proof of his existence. According to him, to get
deceived, one must exist. He further contends that belief in a fair God is must to gain trust on
own self. This belief could be derived from conviction and faith on the truthfulness of one’s
perception of ideas. Notion still lacks the clarity as clear ideas cannot prove the existence of
God, but the principles of doubt and basic concepts of rationality (Dicker, 2013).
David Hume, Friedrich Nietzsche, and John Locke have highlighted the flaws in his basic
conception. So, in light of modern philosophical facts, his statement fails to hold true.

Effective Quality Management
Quality management processes ensure effectiveness and perfection of offered
services/products by the organization along with providing high quality (Goetsch and Davis,
2014). Operations management and quality management are the two sides of the same coin that
assist enterprises in accomplishing strategic objectives with combined effort and impact (Jeong
and Phillips, 2001). Three prime factors that help organizations in meeting high standards of
quality include planning, compliance and monitoring of services/products’ quality throughout the
process, starting from idea emergence to ultimate delivery to end customer (Jeston and Nelis,
2014). Now, in the case of Luis bank, an organization can embed Six Sigma into each and every
process to ensure the perfect compliance with quality. It could be done by reducing the time to
introduce new products, continuous and critical assessment of product portfolio, reducing
complaint handling time and meeting high-quality standards without incurring a cost. Such
perfect compliance could automatically enhance the overall operational efficiency and assist in
the accomplishment of organization’s strategic objectives (Kaynak, 2003; Oakland, 2014).
