North Sulawesi Tectonic

Three main arc events:

• Middle Eocene– Early Miocene,

characterized by thick series
tholeitic basaltic volcanics
associated with deep marine
sediments.

• Miocene, represented by calc-

alkaline volcanics intruded by
comagmatic granitoids, interfings
with shallow marine sediments.

• Pliocene – Recent, largely of sub-

aerial volcanics of andesitic – dacitic
and comagmatic high level
intrusions.

- In 16th century, Dutch found

potential gold mineralization
at North Sulawesi arm but it
was not evaluated and
followed up until the 19th
century

- Several companies surveyed

the north arm of Sulawesi for
mineral exploration in mid
1970’s

- Placer Dome BHP/Utah

Conclusion
‰ Bakan is a typical High-sulphidation epithermal system with a
silicification core enveloped by advance argillic to argillic alteration
assemblage.

‰ Bakan in situ mineral resources above 0.3 g/t Au cut-off totaling

44.9 Mt @ 0.76 g/t Au contain of about 1,104 Koz Au.

‰ A dynamic thinking, systematic geological concepts and adequate

supporting exploration gears were the key to the update resources
and discovery at Bakan
