City of Tacloban
1. OVERVIEW OF THE LOCALE (OK NA)
a.) GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION
Located in the northeastern part of Leyte, Tacloban lays at geographical
coordinate 11 degrees 14’38.19” north latitude and 125 degrees 0’18.24” east
longitude The city’s territory follows the length of the strait, along with Babatngon
municipality north of the city.
Furthermore, the city is divided into 138 barangays as of September 30, 2019
which is headed by Mayor Alfred Romualdez. According to Philippine Statistics
Authority, as of 2015, Tacloban has a total population of 242,089, making it the
most populous city in Eastern Visayas. Tacloban is also rich with various types of
soil which are Naga-Naga clay, Caibaan Clay, Tacloban Clay, Pawing Silt, Caibaan
Clay Loam, Calanipawan Clay Loam and Pawing Silt Loam.
            b.) TOPOGRAPHY
Tacloban city is elevated 3.05 meters above sea level. On the northwestern
part of the city, the rolling terrain is evenly distributed. On the northeastern part is
the Kanhuraw Hill which is overlooking the Cancabato Bay. Also, the Naga-naga
mountain which is 1300 feet high is located on the southwestern portion of the city.
This range serves as the boundary between Tacloban city and its adjacent
municipalities like Alang-alang, Babatngon, Palo and Santa Maria.
            c.) LAND AREA
The City of Tacloban has a land area of 20,172 hectares or 201.72 square
kilometres as per data from the Land Management Bureau of the Department of
Environment and Natural Resources. As classified by CENRO and DENR, the land
area of the city is generally classified as alienable (A) and disposal (D) lands.
            d.) SLOPE AND RIVERS
Various rivers and creek traverse through Tacloban City, Leyte. First, the
Mangonbangon which is a stream that passes through the downtown of the city.
Second, the Tigbao-Diit River is a stream which traverse in Tacloban City and the
last body of water found is the Burayan Creek. The city is mostly flat and the slopes
in these bodies of water are also flat.

2. POPULATION DEMOGRAPHY(EDIT)
            Based on the data gathered by the Province/Municipality/City of Poblacion
for the year 2014, there is a total of 6,907 individuals living in the Poblacion area in
which there are 3,568 male and 3,339 female distributed in 969 families. Among
these, there are 797 children aged 0-6 years old, 214 population aged 60 years old
and above, 181 pregnant women and 13 individuals with disability. These persons
are specifically identified by the barangay since they are the most vulnerable during
disasters.

3. ECONOMIC (EDIT)
The table below shows the agricultural crops and production of the City of
Tacloban for the year 1997 based on the records of the City Agriculturist Office.
Coconut has the largest agricultual land area of 1,170.16 hectares followed by rice
and rootcrops of 270 and 250 hectares respectively. Meanwhile, other crops such as
fruits, leafy vegetables and corn are listed down below..

4. SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE(EDIT)
           Tacloban City identified three sectors of its social infrastructure including
healthcare,education and public facilities . In the sector of Education there are 29
university schools,which 3 among them are government-owned and six are
privately-owned. Also,there are 9 public schools and 6 private schools at the
secondary level. In the elementary level, there are 47 elementary schools, where in
35 are public schools and 12 are private schools. In Health Sector there are 7
hospitals ,2 among them are owned bu the government and the rest is a private
hospitals. Lastly, 6 public facilities were recognized in Tacloban City.

5. PROVINCE/MUNICIPALITY/CITY CALAMITIES AND DISASTERS(OK NA TO)


Way back November 2013, Supertyphoon Yolanda has landfilled in the city of
Tacloban that cause damage of industrial and economic properties. Barangray 88 was the
most affected in Tacloban which resulted to the destruction of 1,600 houses and 1,000
deaths approximately. Overall, 5,670 were found dead, 1,761 were missing and 26,233
were injured in the city and the total cause of the damage is around 34.3 Billion pesos.
During the Christmas break in 2019, Typhoon Ursula has landfilled in the city of
Tacloban that resulted to damage of several buildings, powered line and uprooted trees.
The Calamity caused 16 deaths and 24,900 pesos as the cost of the damage of the
typhoon.

6. RESCUE TOOLS/EQUIPMENTS: ( OK NA T)

Equipment available in the Tacloban City are; 1 Radnet 5, 46 Portable VHF Radios, 5
Ambulance, 1 Advanced Life Support, 1 Pick-up truck, First Aid Kit and Psychological
First Aid. All of them are in good condition.

7. TRANSPORTATION:
The city has 2 advance life support ambulances, 1 pick-up truck ambulance which
are owned by TACRU. Also, they have 1 jeep which is owned by Kagawad Chalito
Majorenos. All of these vehicles are serviceable.

8. IDENTIFIED EVACUATION CENTER/S:

The city was able to identified evacuation centers which are as follows: Sagkahan
National High School, St. Rafael Church, Brgy.69 Hall, Rizal Central School, Leyte
National High School, San Fernando Central School, Kapangian Central School, San
Jose Central School, Redemptorist Church, Holy Infant College and Astrodome.
