KTP ASSOCIATE (RESEARCHER) - COVENTRY UNIVERSITY

1. JOB INFORMATION

Post Title: 3D Scanners KTP Associate Researcher


Grade: 7
Salary Range: £28,000 - £32,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and
experience, plus circa £5,500 to fund personal training and development
Term: 35 Months Fixed Term Contract

The role of the KTP Associate typically includes the duties and responsibilities itemised

2. JOB DESCRIPTION

.1 Purpose

To work under the supervision of a university academic and the KTP industrial partner 3D
Scanners Ltd to lead the KTP research project objectives including all reporting back to
IUK/KTP, the University and the industrial partner, ensuring objectives and reporting are
timely and in line with project objectives. The Associate will be responsible for developing
relationships and collaborations that enhance the project outcomes, and the reputation of
IUK, 3D Scanners and Coventry University, whilst advancing knowledge and application of
knowledge in the field/research discipline. To work directly within 3D Scanners, CU and IUK
on the KTP project – specifically the creation of an interactive software platform and packages
to facilitate users to embed measurement uncertainty, compliant to all relevant industrial and
international standards, within their measurements that are executed via Polyworks. This will
require extensive research and development across a wide range of measurement systems.

.2 Duties and Responsibilities

1. Under the supervision of a university academic and industry-based technical support,


take ownership of the daily planning and implementation of the project plans and
objectives, including successful management, delivery, reporting and dissemination of
research.

2. Where relevant develop and report activities and outcomes, which will make significant
impact on the relevant field through increases in knowledge, discovery and
development of new insights, concepts and/or processes.

3. Review and analyse research and application findings, developing new insights that
expand thought and practice in the field and for industrial dissemination.
4. Take the lead in promoting and disseminating research outputs using a range of media
e.g. journals; external reports, refereed conference presentations, exhibitions,
performances where considered appropriate to the project and the market sensitivities

5. Develop relationships and partnerships externally to foster collaboration and generate


positive impact on the project, and where appropriate to IUK, Coventry University and
3D Scanners

6. Provide the operational academic leadership to others, especially in 3D Scanners by,


for example, coordinating resources, setting objectives, planning and organising work
to deliver effectively.

7. Contribute actively to knowledge transfer and exploitation through workshops,


seminars, patents, licence agreements, short courses for external clients etc.

8. Contribute to the achievement and development of others through institutional


processes (e.g. Recruitment and Development) and through encouraging, coaching
and mentoring colleagues to become research active where appropriate.

9. Input to Institute and, where appropriate, University applied research strategy.

10. Contribute to the management of quality for all activities and reporting regarding the
KTP and all other activities. Report activities and outcomes to the University to support
the University Research Excellence Framework (REF).

11. Engage with Metrology CPD team and control theory colleagues to ensure new
knowledge is incorporated in CPD and/or teaching where appropriate.
