Plate Tectonics

1. What evidence do scientists have that large plates of land are moving?
I’m not sure but I think that they have studied earthquakes and how they show up by theories and
testing.

2. What are some names of the major plates of land?

I'm not sure but I think, Pacific Plate (our plate), and maybe African plate, Asian plate, north American
plate, European plate, etc. but I don’t know.

3. What are some ways that tectonic plates can interact with each other?
By sliding over, under, through and full on smashing into another.

4. How can landforms provide evidence for scientists to determine plate

boundaries?
Mountains are made by tectonic plates sliding into each other and that can create magma.

5. How does the theory of plate tectonics relate to mountains and volcanoes?
Mountains are made by tectonic plates sliding into each other and that can create magma.

Plate Tectonics

1. What evidence do scientists have that large plates of land are moving?
I was kind of right the first time but I didn’t mention fossils like similar ones found in Africa and
south America, sea floor magmatism, mountains, volcanoes, earthquakes and the shape of
continents like how Africa And south America look like a puzzle (satellite images)( this was the
theory of Alfred Lother Wegener)
2. What are some names of the major plates of land?
I was right on some, but I missed a bunch. Such as Pacific Plate - 103,300,000 sq km, North
American Plate - 75,900,000 sq km, Eurasian Plate - 67,800,000 sq km, African Plate -
61,300,000 sq km, Antarctic Plate - 60,900,000 sq km, Indo-Australian Plate - 58,900,000 sq km,
South American Plate - 43,600,000 sq km.

3. What are some ways that tectonic plates can interact with each other?
They can move toward one another, or converge; move away from one another, or diverge; or
slide past one another, subduct( one goes under another) a movement known as transform
motion. So, I was partly right.

4. How can landforms provide evidence for scientists to determine plate

boundaries?
There are 4 basic landforms found at plate boundaries. These are fold mountains, mid ocean
ridges, ocean trenches (and valleys) and volcanos. So, I got one of them right

5. How does the theory of plate tectonics relate to mountains and volcanoes?

By how they are formed so, I was kind of right. For example, the subduction zone under Washington
causes our volcanos.
