1.

There is a disagreement with two students on how many planets are in the solar
system. Student A claims there are 8 planets and Student B claims there are 12
planets. What is some evidence to support each claim?

a. Answer: 12 because there’s 8 in the solar system and there’s moons

2. On which planet would you weigh the least? What is your evidence to prove this?
a. Answer: Venus but I am not sure, but I know it’s the planet that w-= the least
3. How does the mass of our planet compare to the other inner planets?
a. Answer: from the Earth the ones closer to the sun get smaller but I am not sure.
4. Dr. Grumbles claims that it is colder during the winter because Earth is farther from
the sun. Provide evidence to prove him right or wrong?
a. Answer: I agree with Steve because the sun provides warmth so being farther
away from the sun would make it colder.
5. How does the path of the sun in the sky change during seasons?
a. Answer: The path changes by how we are compared to the sun, but I am not sure
6. How would seasons on Uranus be different from Earth?
a. Answer: It’s farther from the sun

7. On which planet would you weigh the least? What is your evidence to prove this?
a. Answer: I was partly correct about the smallest mass that makes the smaller
gravitational pull to make you weigh less but I now know that the planet with the
2nd smallest mass is Mars.(Mercury is smaller but it’s denser)
8. How does the mass of our planet compare to the other inner planets?
a. Answer: I was correct, but I also learned that the very close to the sun planets are small
and the “planets” (including Pluto) that are very far from the sun are also small and the
largest planets-Saturn and Jupiter are in the middle.
9. Dr. Grumbles claims that it is colder during the winter because Earth is farther from
the sun. Provide evidence to prove him right or wrong?
a. Answer: I was correct to agree with Dr. Grumbles and I have also learned that the
tilt of the Earth causes the seasons and that time that the summer solstice is
when the sun is highest in the sky and the winter solstice is when the sun is
lowest in the sky and the autumn and spring equinoxes is when the sun is right in
the middle.
10. How does the path of the sun in the sky change during seasons?
a. Answer: I was correct and I have also learned that the time that the summer
solstice is when the sun is highest in the sky and the winter solstice is when the
sun is lowest in the sky and the autumn and spring equinoxes is when the sun is
right in the middle.
11. How would seasons on Uranus be different from Earth?
a. Answer: I was correct and I learned that the days on Uranus are 17 hours and 14
minutes and a year is 84 years and that the tilt of the planet is almost 90% and one half
of the year is complete darkness and one half is 24-hour daylight.
