Memory Fractions Game


Due April 17, 2016

Grade: 1-2
Domain: C
Objective: Fraction parts- Numerator and denominator
3a- Given a concrete or pictorial representation of a proper fraction,
improper fraction, or fraction equal to one (area and set model), the student will
write the number of parts being named.
3b- Given a description of a proper fraction, or a fraction equal to one, the
student will represent the specified fraction concretely or pictorially using area and
set models.

Materials needed:
Fraction cards
Partner

Number of Players: 2-3 (pictures are shown with 2 players.)

Rules:
Step 1: Shuffle the cards.

Step 2: Lay all the cards face down


Step 3: Flip 2 cards over.
If they do not match- turn both face down
again.

If they do match then keep them in your pile.


Step 4: Other players’ turn

Step 5: Repeat all steps until all of the cards in


the middle are gone.
The player with the most cards wins.
Variation:
More difficult: You could also include
cards where the student needs to
reduce, finding different parts of the
whole (part not shaded), or have
reading involved, similar to examples
shown to the right.

Less difficult: Hand select fractions


that are at the students’ difficulty level
(i.e. 1/2, 1/3, 1/4)
