*Please forward message to your teammates.

Good a ernoon Monarch teachers! In the next few weeks, milkweed seeds will be coming to each school. This is a con nued
effort to try and bulk up the milkweed at each school in order to help sustain caterpillars in the Fall. The seed packets will be
mailed via basketmail inside an inter-office envelope addressed to the 2nd grade team at your school. The envelope for first
grade is inside that envelope and is labeled. The seeds inside are for the en re first grade.

Seed Dispersal Instruc ons:

IMPORTANT! (If not plan ng outside this winter, seeds must be cold stra fied prior to being planted, here’s a link for
informa on, h ps://monarchbu erflygarden.net/cold-moist-stra fica on-milkweed-seeds/)

Schools w/ Gardens
Have your students sow (plant) individual seeds into your garden(s) ASAP- COLD is the key! (Cold stra fica on
not required)
Sowing methods include:
Plant one seed in a hole the depth of an eraser head or finger p and cover with soil.
Sprinkle seeds in garden.
These two methods, if done soon, will cold stra fy the seeds. Let nature do her thing!
Schools w/o Gardens
Students can spread or plant seeds in other areas of the school grounds, possibly in an exis ng school garden
or courtyard.
Teachers may disperse seeds to students to take home and plant.
Use the seeds and grow milkweed in the classroom (*See link below for proper growing and plan ng
instruc ons.)

As always, please let me know if you have any ques ons. Please do not let your seeds go to waste. Thank you!
