The importance of the role played by the nurse, in the transformation of an individual has already
been elucidated. It is more so in the case of pregnant woman with disseminated intravascular
coagulation, since pregnancy puts the woman and the fetus into a particularly vulnerable position. Various
techniques and medications now available for safe relief of labor pain, and hence, health care providers
have the responsibility to respond to patient requests for pain management, with active information and
knowledge of the patient as to what drug has been used to relieve the discomforts of labor.
B. Lydia Hall
Lydia Hall was always interested in rehabilitative nursing and the role
that the professional nurse played in the patient’s recovery and welfare.
From her experience at Loeb Center, she developed her “core, care, cure”
theory, which also emerged formally as the model upon when rehabilitative
care was based (Pender, 2016).
In relation to this case, patients with disseminated intravascular coagulation, needs absolute care
provided by nurses, which may include comfort measures, patient instruction, and helping the patient
meet his or her needs when help is needed.
