BEAT SPOT

Introduction

WELCOME!
First of all, let us thank you for downloading this ebook.
It’s an extraordinary feeling to know that we’re delivering and spreading know-
ledge to producers all across the globe, without any boundaries. This a fantastic
time to be alive and to be a musician.

HOW AND WHY WE MADE THIS EBOOK?

These are hard times and it’s something no one was ready for.
Our lives and our daily routines have been shaken in a way we couldn’t imagine.
However, if you’re lucky enough to stay safe at home, life goes on and this huge
amount of time that dropped on us out of nowhere is a great opportunity to sit
down and do those things that we procrastinated for a lot of time.
This is a unique scenario for most of us, especially those who study or have a job
that drains a lot of time throughout the day.

Carpe diem.

We thought about making a list of things you can spend some time on to pave the
path of your music making journey when this pandemic will be over.

ONE LAST THING BEFORE MOVING ON.

It’s very important for us to have a feedback and that’s why we read all the com-
ments and emails every week.
We always strive to improve our content, so if you have any tip for us, feel free
to reach us out at beatspot.inbox@gmail.com

Have a nice reading and stay safe,

Marco & Giulio

Phase 1: Getting ready

REORDER YOUR MUSIC-MAKING SPACE

Make sure everything is in order, get rid of old papers and organize things and
tools in a meaningful way to your workflow.

CLEAN UP THE DESKTOP

Having a lot of junk on your desktop slows you down at finding the things you
need and your computer as it requires more effort by the graphic card.

MANAGE YOUR SYSTEM PREFERENCES

Is your computer set to work at the best in relation to your needs? Is it easy for
you to manage the brightness of the screen? Do you have the night-shift option
set at the time the sun goes down? Is the system font set at a comfortable size?

SORT FOLDERS
Think of your files as a pile of real-life documents. Take the time you need to or-
ganize them in a system of nested folders that actually guides you toward the file
you’re looking for.

SORT SAMPLES AND PRESETS

Take some time to delete what you don’t need. Maybe you’re not a fan of drum
loops, so this is a good time to delete them and make your library leaner and
more focused on what sparks your creativity.

ORGANIZE VSTS
The same goes for your tools. Collect all the compressors into one folder, do the
same for EQs, reverbs and so on. When you are looking for a compressor, you
just want a compressor and having to remember if it’s called Fabfilter Pro-C 3 or
just Pro-C 3 is a thing that creates an enormous friction in your browsing expe-
rience. Also, having your plugins sorted this way gives you the chance to pick and
compare all your compressions in a matter of seconds instead of having to find
them all among the chaos of a messy list.

ORGANIZE YOUR EXTERNAL DRIVES

If you have one or more external drives, think about using each one for a specific
type of content and take advantage of it to free some space on your workstation.

COLLECT ALL YOUR PASSWORDS AND PRODUCT KEYS IN A DOCUMENT

Saving all your passwords within your browser isn’t enough, especially if you
need to log in from another device. Keep everything in check and live without any
fear of having to reset your passwords when you have to log in.

MAKE A BACKUP
This is the thing you always wish you’ve done before. Be ready for the worst to
happen and put all your efforts in a safe place.

Phase 2: Moving forward

STUDY YOUR TOOLS AND TRY NEW ONES

There’s a lot of tools we undervalue for the simple reason we didn’t dive in-depth
as they deserve.

MAKE SOME SOUND DESIGN FOR THE FUTURE

This is the time to mess up with things! Craft the kicks you want, make that 808
patch you always had to make from scratch.

MAKE A TEMPLATE
You will always need a bunch of stuff every time, make it ready for you to use and
get ready to save a lot of precious time in your future sessions.

MAKE A REFERENCE PLAYLIST

Go on Spotify or wherever you want and put together some thing you want to
listen to to get inspired.

CLEAN UP YOUR EMAIL

Get rid of all the newsletters you’re not interested in. Things like apps you downlo-
aded or services you logged in to download just one thing.

ANALYZE YOUR DISTRACTIONS

Are you fully aware of what keeps you from producing? Social media, video ga-
mes and so on? They are nice, but don’t abuse them. Try thinking about how
much time these things are draining.

LOOK FOR NEW PAGES/ACCOUNTS/CHANNELS TO HELP YOU IMPROVE

It’s time to find out new projects full of valuable content out there. Whatever
your interests are, you’re probably ignoring creators with stuff you would actually
enjoy.

UNFOLLOW USELESS PAGES/ACCOUNTS/CHANNELS

Are you following a rapper that keeps posting pictures of new drip? Think if you
really need that kind of content to dilute all the value that might lift you.

MAKE A WISH LIST

Is there anything you want? A piece of gear, a CD, a software, whatever. List them
all and consider what you need the most and how much of them you can afford.
You will find out what you need the most in the short time or how much you need
to save to make yourself the gift you’ve wanted for a long time.

PLAN YOUR GOALS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR

Set some fairly achievable things. Nothing too hard, nothing too easy. Just so-
mething that requires a fair amount of effort that will make you feel realized and
proud once achieved.
