Overview... Earth monkey in space meets a Martian monkey and a Venusian monkey... they have a
discussion and decide to join together to explore space.

Props: Space backdrop, Spaceship backdrop

Spaceships on sticks, alien bananas

Costumes: Venus Monkey, Earth Monkey, Martian Monkey

SCENE 1: In Space
Voiceover: In the early days of the space-age animals were sent into space... dogs, cats, octopi... but
especially MONKEYS!

(sounds like Rock Lobster)

SPACE MON-KEYS!

(at this point the space ships of the three monkeys zoom around... eventually meeting in the center of
the stage area)

All: Eeep! Eeep eeep! Eeeeeeeeeeep!

Scene Two: On board the Earth space ship

(snip)

Martian Monkey: (sharing bananas with the other two) This spaceship is so awfully cramped, while
mine is big and roomey.
Why don't you both just pack your bags and come along and join me?!!!

Earth Monkey: (strident) But I'm on a mission, a hero to all. As much as I'd like to I can't go AWOL.
I've duties and tasks, that list on the wall... without me at the console the mission will stall!!!
(pausing to think...)
There are buttons to push, switches to switch... I'd be in big trouble if I were to ditch!

Venus Monkey: (morose) My spaceship ain't fancy, it's made out of wood.
The TV is tiny and receptions no good.
(happier)
I'll happily join you on board your craft, I'm not no hero, they gave me the shaft!

Martian Monkey: I'm happy to have you along for the ride, we'll tour the stars and I'll be your guide.
Now come along quickly, let's leave this old crate.
We're off to adventure, it's gonna be great!

(leave the Earth ship)

Earth Monkey: (sad, pondering) It's better that I remain here at my station, icon of science and hero of
nations.
(thinking)
But it would be such fun to go further beyond, and those weird bananas... I have grown quite fond.
(pondering)
Perhaps I could just go along for a bit?
Would anyone notice me giving the slip.
Once 'round the galaxy might not take long...
I'll be back in a moment, would that be so wrong?

(Earth Monkey quickly packs her bag and runs off to join the others)

Wait for me!

(Pause)

Mission Control: Attention Pilot XL5... it's time to push button 32... Pilot XL5, please respond!... Pilot
XL5! Respond XL5! Respond!

(back in space the Martian saucer zooms off... leaving the Earth and Venus spaceships behind)
