WRITING 5: AN INFORMAL EMAIL (Giving advice and suggestions)

Hi Gus,

It was so good to hear from you again. It’s been absolutely ages since I last
heard from soy. I’m really sorry not to have been in touch for so long but I have
been up to my neck in work and studies. You know I’m a very busy person.

What great news that you’ve got a job in Germany at last! I’m so proud of you
because I know you have been working very hard on it. So thanks so much for
your email. Thought you’d forgotten all about me! I’m kidding.

About learning German from scratch you shouldn’t worry too much. If I were
you, I’d definitely get an online one-to-one teacher before leaving the country in
order to learn the basic grammar and everyday vocabulary of the language.
That’s the basis of learning a language. Once in Germany, make sure you get
yourself a good dictionary and whatever you say you must believe you are
doing it right and also I would take an intensive course before starting your new
job. But I recommend that you may stay with a German family, it seems to work
very well and it will help you to be more fluent and secure and will really speed
up your progress.

My last advice is: don’t give up easily. Learning a language takes a lot of effort.
I’m pretty sure your teacher will show you tricks to learn vocabulary, every
teacher has very valuable resources.

Anyway, I hope that’s helped. I wish you all the best on in your new adventure
and please, let’s catch up soon. It’d be great to hear from you again.

Take care,

Ana.
