Prankster’s Dilemma

A Micro RPG About Snitching

To whom it may concern,

Why is there smoke coming out of the locker room toilets?!? Who put a goat in the
cafeteria?!? What happened to the vice-principal’s car?!? The morning after Senior Prank Day,
someone is taking the fall...

Prankster’s Dilemma is a game you’ll play mostly while you’re doing other stuff. It’s especially
well suited to game nights, parties, and conventions. You’ll need at least 4 players, and up to
10 is reasonable. You’ll all need the ability to digitally message one another on your phones.

Choose one player to be the Principal, trying to catch em all. The remaining players are
Students, all of whom organized a prank but desperately don't want to be caught and held back
from graduating.

The game is played across three distinct phases; Pranks, Planning, and Punishment.

Pranks
: Students each secretly send a text to any other Student with a prank they organized and a
random detail about it. Be creative! Anyone who gets a text, copies that text to the Principal,
thus hiding the actual culprit but establishing themselves as a key witness.

Planning
: Everyone does whatever else outside of this game for the next hour+ (party, game, etc.)
while Students pin down alibis and allies. When talking about anything in game, Students can ONLY
communicate with other Students via texts. Pretend you are going through your day of classes and
need to get this sorted before you all get called to the Principal’s office.

Punishment
: Eventually gather everyone together. All the students have been called to the
principal’s office to answer for their misdeeds. The Principal questions, cajoles, and tries to
figure out blame, while Students try to get away with whatever they did. Players can say or do
anything their character might, including showing actual messages on their phones.

After about 10-15 mins of investigating, the Principal assigns blame for all of the pranks. The
Principal wins if they correctly blame more Students than they get wrong. Any Student who wasn't
correctly blamed also wins, but ONLY if the Principal has won too.

Choose your allies and strategy carefully; you need to throw some fellow students under the bus
while trying to ensure you don’t get tossed in along with them. Good luck.

Sincerely,

Matt Fantastic

PS: To play, you’ll need to share your text number or FB or whatever. If you’re playing with
randos at a public event, please remember to be mindful of creeps. Toxic masculinity and
Gamergate trash have infected enough of our scene that we sadly need to worry about what these
troglodytes are doing. Be safe, have fun, and smash the patriarchy.

PPS: This game is great for playing remotely with a bunch of friends throughout the day too. Just
use some video conferencing online for the final meeting.
