The Way of Shadows is a fantasy novel written by the American Brent Weeks.

It was published
in 2008, being the first publication of The Night Angel trilogy. The story takes place in Cenaria,
which is located in the fictional land of Midcyru. The main characters are: Kylar, Durzo Blint,
Roth Ursuul, Momma K and Logan Gyre.

Cenaria is split into two halves: the East Side, where the upper class and aristocracy live and
the Warrens, which is the home of beggars, orphans and muggers and it is full of poverty and
crime.

Kylar is an orphan boy who lives in the Warrens. He and his two friends, Jarl and Elene, take
part of a gang of young thieves. Kylar is forced to steal in order to feed himself and he is also
compelled to pay a periodic amount of money to the gang’s leader, Roth Ursuul.

Roth is a very cruel boy and he likes beating the other members of the gang when they are not
able to pay him. Kylar does hate and fear Roth, however, Roth goes beyond than usual and
almost killed Elene, after she could not pay him. Then, Kylar decides to become and apprentice
of Durzo Blint (the best assassin in the city) and he kills Roth. Nevertheless, Roth is at last
saved by a magician, when Kylar already believed he had killed him.

During the rest of the book Kylar becomes a great assassin, and Roth gets a lot of power,
besides he is always trying to find Kylar so as to revenge.

This is a gripping novel and I would advise anyone to read it. I think you will not be
disappointed but this outstanding story.
