Reflection Speech 1

The three values that I presented in class were: persistence, acceptance, and Growth. I will

go over the positive and negative aspects of my speech, how I can improve and what I will do to

make my next speech more effective. My speech could have used more practice. Practicing at

least 5 minutes a day in front of a mirror would have increased the credibility of my speech.

Something I learned was that Instead of bringing the whole outline to the podium I could instead

just bring up flash cards. To make sure my speech will be more competent than the last I will

practice a week before. An effective point in my presentation is when I clapped my hands before

I began my speech in the hopes to capture my audience's attention ( it also works to scare away

nerves). While I do not know if it worked to capture the classes attention I know for a fact that it

helped scare away my nerves.

Another positive aspect of my speech is when I used some of my life experience to

explain to the class why I chose those particular values and why they mean so much to me. I

hope that by sharing some stories with the audience they would be able to relate to me. The first

and last half of my speech did partially follow my outline. I forgot to mention a quote for the first

value which was meant to compliment my first value. An unexpected ,and in my opinion,

positive thing about my speech was the 2nd section of speech where I ignored the value I had

written down in my outline and instead spoke about acceptance because it fell in so perfectly
with the previous value I had mentioned. Unfortunately because the 2nd half was improvised it

meant that I didn't have an object to represent it.

The ideas/values for my speech were well organized, the strongest being the first and

second values. My strongest transition would be my first value to the second because the two

values related to each other in the story I used to present them. My weakest transition would be

my second to third value. I think this was because my second value took longer than I expected

and by the time I had reached the third I had ran out of steam and gone over the time limit. A

strength in my presentation would be my speaking voice. It seemed loud and comprehensive

enough for people all the way in the back row to hear me. I used the presentation aid/object

effectively for my first value however it had a smaller impact for my third value because I went

over the time limit.

In conclusion I will be focusing on the negative aspects of my speech to help me make

my next one more impactful. Using this self reflection will help me study for the next

presentation and will help me establish my credibility.
