If you want to understand God you should always look into his mind rather than focusing only to his hands.
The Bible is written and produced through Hebrew people; its concept is based on Hebraic culture way of thinking and
way of life. If you want to get the true value of every words and phrases in the Bible you must think like a true
Hebrew does.

*Hebrew thinking is cyclical while Greek thinking is linear.

Your thinking is vital on God’s purpose in you.

word “nephesh” which means soul, or subconscious mind [which is the real person or being]

So in order to mislead a person you must change his concept about things or distort the meaning of words and terms.

The untold History of the translation of the word “repent/repentance”

OLD LATINN ERA


The Latin Fathers translated metanoia as paenitentia, which came to mean "penance" or "acts of penance." They felt
that in order to obtain eternal salvation men had to perform righteous acts of penance as prescribed by one's confessor
priest.
LATIN VULGATE ERA
Jerome established this Old Latin translation as authoritative when he retained paenitentia as the translation of
metanoia. The system of penance became an established pathway whereby one hoped to obtain grace.
21st Century
Christianity defined repentance as an act of asking forgiveness from God or feel sorry for the wrong things you done and
do not sin again.

Metanoia is used in the NT in a number of different ways, all of which have the idea of a change of mind at the
root. In a few contexts it is used via metonymy as a synonym for eternal salvation. When it is used in contexts dealing
with temporal salvation from life's difficulties, a change of mind about one's sinful ways (i.e., repentance) is given as the
condition. However, when used in contexts dealing with eternal salvation from hell, a change of mind about oneself and
Christ (or, in one passage, regarding idols and God) is given as the condition. In such contexts metanoia is used as a
synonym for faith.
Now, Jesus wants us to repent; to change the way we think that’s the exact and true meaning of the word
repent. Now, when God is dealing with sin the Bible says we should confess our sins; confess is simply agreeing to God
that you have sinned. Whenever we heard or read the word repent we must think about the state of mind not sin.
Repentance is not bringing up to God your past and feel sorry for it. Repentance is about God bringing you
back to your past state of mind [the original state of mind]. It’s about returning to the original mindset that God put in
man. The prefix “re” means go backwards; go back to original. Pent means lofty or high; that’s why they called homes
in top floors of building as penthouse.
In other words, repent means change the way you think or go back to the original thinking or think high again.
We are created in the image and likeness of God and so we must think like God in order for us to keep ourselves in the
kingdom of God.
John the Baptist, Jesus the Christ, Apostle Paul, Peter, the Disciples and the early church proclaim the word “repent”
as they preach the gospel of the kingdom of God.

Digging Deep

“You MUST go back to the beginning to understand what is being taught in the middle and the end.”

The comparable word used in the Tanakh and the Hebrew culture is teshuvah. This word is generally translated 'to
return', or to 'go back'. This is borne out from its verbal root shoov. The first use of this word sets the standard
for how it is to be understood. In Bere’shiyt (Genesis) chapter 1 and 2 we have the creation and making of all
things.

Bere’shiyt 3:17-19 [Genesis]


"... cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and
thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field; In the sweat of thy face shalt thou
eat bread, till thou  return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust
shalt thou  return."

There are a bunch of neat things here, but lets stay with our subject. The word return, used twice here, is
the first occurrence of the word for repent. This is dovetailed with the 'fall' of Adam. The foundation of
repentance is the return to where you came from. Adam came from the dust, and that is where he
will teshuvah, or return to. The root of repentance is to go back to something. It is what we are to go back
to, that is critical.

*Both restore and converted are the word shoov. David is praying that he be returned back to Yah's ways so
that he may be able to teach others to do the same. This is one place that teaches us that sacrifices are vain
(vs 19) without repentance.

Mizemor(Psalms) 23:3
"He  restoreth my soul; he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake."

*How can YHVH lead His people in the paths of righteousness if they do not first repent or return unto Him?
By the way, the word paths here is properly translated as cycles of righteousness.

Mizemor (Psalms) 119:79


"Let those who fear thee  turn unto me, and those who have known thy testimonies."

*Again, the context is to those who have turned away from YHVH, who have known His testimonies. YHVH
is pleading for them to go back.

Yiremeyahu (Jeremiah) 23:21 - 22


"I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran; I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied. But if they had
stood in my counsel and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have  turned them from
their evil way, and from the evil of their doings."

This word is used in this manner over 1,000 times in the Tanakh (Old Testament).

Our Father has gone to great lengths to fully define this word for us. There should be no confusion as to what
it means when it is used in the New Testament. But yet there is. Why? Because most students of scripture
begin in the middle in order to search out doctrine, not at the beginning. This technique has always been
saturated in a basic Greek philosophy, the Old Testament is for Jews. The Old testament is for all nations,
actually.

Malachi 4:4-6

One of the fundamental meanings of shoov, is to restore. Here are a few examples.

pray for me, that my hand may be  restored to me again. And the man of ’Elohiym besought YHVH, and the
king's hand was  restored to him again, and became as it was before."

The whole idea of repentance and restoration is to bring something back to the way it was before. This is
what YHVH has designed to be the method by which his creation is sustained. Otherwise, it collapses,
decays, and degenerates. Creation must have input from someone outside of itself in order to sustain itself.

The answer to the moral decay and corruption of man, whether physical or spiritual, is to return to YHVH's
instructions (Torah). This is what YHVH has given us to sustain us. If we turn from His ways, our nation will
collapse morally. Our lives will fall into moral corruption. We will not know right from wrong.

Hitgalut (Revelation) 3:3


" Remember, therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast and  repent. If, therefore thou shalt
not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee."

The man's other hand was like it should have been. It was whole.

The full restoration of YHVH's kingdom has yet to be accomplished. This is yet future, but the restoration has
begun. It begins by YHVH calling out a people for His name. It begins by YHVH choosing those who are to be
Yeshua‘’s body and the bearer of His good news and restoration of His word. These people, mainly gentiles,
are to make the Jews jealous (Romans 11:14). All through history, YHVH is calling out to His people to
come back. His people, at this time, are the body of Yeshua'. Most of those over the centuries, that have
claimed to be His people, have not gone back to anything, but have proclaimed a whole new people and
gone their own direction.

We have probably heard Divre-Hayamim Bet (2 Chronicles) 7:14 quoted hundreds of times over the years, in
seminars, books, revivals, testimonies, and prayers. Western Christians pleading with YHVH to heal our
nation. We recognize that our nation is immoral and corrupt, and that He will judge us. So we pray to Him
fervently to help us, but listen carefully to what we are asking.

"If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn
from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sins, and heal their land."

First of all, "if my people", anywhere else in the Tanakh would be only Israel, according to modern Christian
teaching. But since we are in a jam, we can now use this verse. I believe it IS speaking to YHVH's people at
all times and prophetically of Israel as well. Most Christians would agree that we need to humble ourselves.
How many do you think know what that means scripturally? Most would agree that we need to pray and seek
His face. It is the next command that I believe most Christians will not acknowledge is speaking to. "Wicked
ways"? We are not wicked. This must be speaking of satan worshipers, the Ku Klux Klan, or Charles Manson.
The wicked, why that is Bill Clinton or Hillary! Wait a minute, that must be speaking of the New World Order,
or the New Age movement. Some will say that the wicked is Hollywood, videos, Nintendo, or the World
Wrestling Federation. Some of the more pious will assume it is the abortion clinics, the homosexuals and
PETA. The religiously observant will insist that the wicked ways are those of the Mormons, Jehovah's
Witnesses, and Moonies. And then again some will blame it all on Rush Limbaugh or Laura Schlessinger.

There are two main points to be made about the Hebrew behind this text.

Veyashuvu  middarikeyhem har'iym reads: turn back from your evil ways.

Veyashuvu, of course, is from shoov. To repent, i.e. to go back to something. Go back to what? The context
is to go back to the ways of the One who created you and knows all things, not to simply stop doing evil
things.
The most deceptive term here is har'iym. This word is from the root ra', and is commonly translated as evil,
wicked, grievous, trouble. It first shows up as the latter part of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
The literal translation of this word is something broken or to break. Something is not right, it is wrong. This
is why Jewish commentators see this as the tree of the knowledge of right and wrong. This word is not
understood this way in our culture. The concept of something being wicked or evil is that which is not the
ways of YHVH. If it is not clean, then it is unclean, holy or unholy, righteous or unrighteous, a believer or an
infidel, the temple of God or the temple of idols, light or dark, right or wrong, Godly or evil (2 Corinthians
6:14-16). From YHVH's point of view, a man is either for Him or against Him, gathering or scattering. From the
scriptural perspective you cannot say, "Well, I may not be obeying the commandments of YHVH, but I am not
doing evil either." There is no in between. If the 'church' is not doing the will of God, then she has turned
unto her own ways, she is doing evil. God is calling her back to His ways. However, the paradigm has been
shifted concerning this term. Many have been convinced that wickedness is all those other people I
mentioned earlier. So we simply define ourselves out of the picture. This is precisely why our nation, in spite
of our heartfelt prayers, continues to plummet into an abyss of immorality. The 'church' will simply not be
convinced that she is guilty of any wickedness, so there is nothing to turn from or to, and the blame goes to
anyone or anything other than herself. So, until judgement begins in the house of YHVH, judgment will be
poured out on our nation.
The next time you read or study the Book of Revelation, check out the letters to the
seven kehillot (churches) and see how many times 'repent' shows up. When you do, think about what YHVH
is trying to say to His people. Does He really want us to just stop doing this or that, or is He crying out to us
to turn back to His instructions for our lives.
