Introduction for tri Venn diagram template:

As an aid to visualize the operations (forming union and intersection and taking complement) on sets,
John Venn, an English mathematician introduced a diagrammatic way of representing sets. The diagrams
representing sets are called Venn Diagrams template. In Venn diagram, there are 3 cycles are used. This
called tri Venn diagram template. There are representations of different sets in tri Venn diagram
template.

Example 1

Verification of the law: A ∪ (B ∩ C) = (A ∪ B) ∩ (A ∪ C) using tri Venn diagrams template:

Solution:

Using tri Venn diagram,

B ∩ C:

A ∪ (B ∩ C):

A ∪ B:
A ∪ C:

(A ∪ B) ∩ (A ∪ C):

Hence the proof A ∪ (B ∩ C) = (A ∪ B) ∩ (A ∪ C).

Example 2

Using Venn diagram template, exhibit the sets A = {2, 4, 5, 9} and B = {6, 9, 12}.

Verify the formula: n(A B) = n(A) + n(B) − n(A B).

Solution:

A U B = {2, 4, 5, 9} U {6, 9, 12} = {2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 12}

n(A B) = 6.

A ∩ B = {2, 4, 5, 9} I{6, 9, 12} = {9}

n(A B) = 1.

We have n(A) = 4, n(B) = 3

n(A) + n(B) = 4 + 3 = 7

n(A) + n(B) − n(A B) = 7 − 1 = 6

Example 3

Out of 75 houses in a town 45 houses have washing machine and 50 houses have refrigerator. Find how
many of them have both.

Solution:

Let A = {the number of houses having washing machine}

B = {the number of houses having refrigerator}

A ∩ B = {The number of houses having both washing machine and refrigerator}.

Let n(A ∩ B) = x

From the venn diagram

45 − x + x + 50 − x = 75
95 − x = 75

−x = 75 − 95

−x = −20

x = 20

∴ The number of houses having both washing machine and refrigerator = 20.

Introduction of Three Way Venn diagram Template:

Venn diagram is otherwise called set diagram which is made up of overlapping the three circles that
shows the relations of between a finite collection of group of things. Venn diagram is most probably
used in mathematics, marketing, sociology, philosophy. Let we see the three way Venn diagram
template with examples and problems

Example Problems – three Way Venn Diagram

Example 1:

In a party, it is found that 100 members eat dosa, 70 members eat pizza, 60 members eat nonveg, 41
members eat dosa and pizza, 33 members eat pizza and nonveg, 27 members eat dosa and nonveg. In
total, 140 members eat either one of these three items. Find the number of people who eat all these
three items by using three way venn diagram template.
Solution:

Let A = People eating only dosa = 100

B = People eating only pizza = 70

C = People eating only nonveg = 60

A∩B = People eating dosa and pizza = 41

B∩C = People eating pizza and nonveg = 33

C∩A = People eating nonveg and dosa = 27

Total number of people eating the items = 140

Number of people eating all the three items = x = A∩B∩C

Formula,

A∩B∩C = AUBUC - A - B - C + (A∩B) + (B∩C) + ( C∩A)

Plug in the values,

A∩B∩C = 140 - 100 - 70 - 60 + 41 + 27 + 33

= 140 + 101 - 230

= 241 - 230

= 11

Number of people eating all the three items = x = 11

Example 2:

Draw the venn diagram template for the following set. A = { 2, 6, 9, 3, 0, 1 },

B = {5, 6, 3,9, 7, 2 }.
C = { 3,6,78,2,54,9,0 } .

Solution:

These are the examples problem of three way venn diagram. Let we do the practice problems.

Pratice Problem – three Way Venn Diagram Template

1. By using the venn diagram template, find the common number of all threes ets given in the following.
A = { 8, 6, 4, 3, 0, 7 },

B = {5, 8, 3,9, 1, 2 }.

C = { 3,6,8,2,54,9,0 } .

Answer: { 6, 8 }
