SECTION 3 - HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION

Emergency overview : Corrosive. Irritates skin, eyes and respiratory tract. May be harmful by ingestion.
Health Effects – Acute
Swallowed : Considered harmful if ingested. Can cause severe irritation of the mouth and throat due to
alkalinity. Surfactant content is likely to cause nausea, vomiting and gastric pain.
Eye : Irritant. Contact is painful; and prolonged contact may damage the eye.
Skin : Irritant. Prolonged exposure can cause defatting of the skin and subsequent irritation and
itching.
Inhaled : Not expected to be a hazard due to low vapour pressure.
Chronic : Repeated contact can cause defatting of the skin and industrial dermatitis

SECTION 4 - FIRST AID MEASURES

Swallowed : Do NOT induce vomiting. Give 1 to 2 glasses of water or milk followed by a raw egg.
Transport patient to a doctor or hospital.
Eye : Hold affected eye open and flush with running water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical
attention.
Skin : Remove contaminated clothing and wash affected area well with water. Launder clothing
before reuse.
Inhaled : Remove patient to fresh air and keep warm and rested.
Advice to doctor : Treat symptomatically.
