The marine world is various, since there are a lot of different species of

plants and animals. Both dolphins and sharks live in the sea. Although
they share a few similarities, there are greater differences between the
warm-blooded mammals – dolphins and the cold-blooded relatives of
fish –sharks.
First of all, they have some characteristics in common. Both live in the
water and do not sleep. Dolphins are vertebrates; similarly, sharks have
backbones. One more similarity is the food. The two species are both
carnivores – meat eaters. They usually eat fish as the main food.
Despite these similarities, sharks and dolphins have some very
significant differences.
One important difference is the respiratory system. Sharks have gills
while dolphins have lungs. Sharks get oxygen through their gills
underwater. In contrast, dolphins use their blowholes to get oxygen from
the air.
Another difference is their reproduction. Usually, sharks lay eggs and
they do not nurse the new infants. Differently, dolphins give live birth.
Unlike sharks, they take care of their young.
The last and most important distinction is the body makeup. As a kind of
mammal, dolphins are made out of bones. They have spinal bones.
However, sharks do not have spinal bones. The reason for this is that
sharks are made out of cartilage. Sharks have no hair whereas dolphins
have hair around their noses. In addition to this difference, one more
remarkable feature is the teeth. Unlike dolphins with little teeth, sharks
have big ones.
In conclusion, a brief look at the two marine species has given us some
more knowledge about both similarities and differences. Sharks and
dolphins are vital parts of the sea and make the marine life more lively.
