WATER BALLOON MATH

How to play:
First, select a problem card. Then,
figure out the answer to the problem
you chose. After that, take a balloon
and toss it at the target marked with
the correct answer to the problem on
the card you picked. Each balloon
made in the hoop equals one point.
Have fun!

How to set it up:


1. Lay the hula hoops in the ground
and put the different solution
number cards in each one.
2. Fill up the water balloons with water.
3. Play water balloon math and keep track of your points!

POSTCARD CREATOR

Directions:
Take the postcards given to you and pick
different people to write to! Tell them
about your summer, anything fun you
want or are going to do, or anything else
you want to share with them! Be
creative!
PARTS OF SPEECH SCAVENGER HUNT

Directions:
Go on a scavenger hunt! Follow the directions
on the paper provided and find the items on
the list based on what the questions ask. Write
what you find or do in your journal!

WRITE ME A LETTER

Directions:
Write me a letter about yourself! What are your interests, hobbies,
favorite subjects, foods, or games? What do you
want to be when you grow up? Tell me anything
about yourself and mail it to me.
ROCK MATH

Directions:
Match the rocks with problems on them with the rocks that have their
solutions.

NATURE WALK

Directions:
Go on a nature walk! Go outside and take a
walk around your house, go to a park, or go to
a local nature center. Walk around and pay
attention to all the things you hear or see.
Make sure you take your journal with you and
write down all of the things you hear or see.
TELL ME ABOUT YOU GAME

How to play:
Use the board game in your learning kit called, “Tell Me About You!”
Play with your mom or someone you know and see if you know all of
each other’s favorite things. Take turns rolling the dice and make your
way around the board!

What you need:

 Dice (in plastic bag)
 Game pieces (in plastic
bag)

CREATE YOUR OWN ENDING

Directions:
Read any story you want and create your own ending
for it! Write how you would end the story in your
journal. Be creative!
MULTIPLICATION SWEETS

Directions:
Complete the multiplication ice cream
sheet called “Sweet Facts.” Practice your
multiplication skills, color the sheet, and
earn a cold, tasty treat after!

JUMP ROPE SPELLING

Directions:
Using the jump rope in your learning kit, spell out vocabulary words
while jumping rope. Jump once for each letter while spelling the word.
Have your mom read out different words for
you to spell. Bonus points if you know the
definition of the word you spell! Use the
vocabulary word cards for this activity. Go
jump to it!
JUMP ROPE COUNTING

Directions:
Using the jump rope in your learning kit, count how
many times you can jump without messing up. Try
counting by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s for practice. Go get
jumping!
LET’S GET SLIMEY

What it is:
You will be making glitter slime! Follow the directions to make your own
slime:

What you’ll need


• 1/2 TBSP baking soda
• 1 1/2 TBSP contact lens solution
• 6 fl oz. Elmer’s Glitter Glue
• Bowl, cup, or plate
• Spoon to mix ingredients

Directions
1. Find a bowl, cup, or plate to mix your slime in.
2. Pour the entire contents of a 6 oz. Elmer’s Glitter Glue into the bowl.
3. Add 1/2 TBSP baking soda to the glue and stir.
4. Add 1 TBSP contact solution to the glue mixture. Mix with a spoon
until slime begins to form and gets firm.
5. Once slime becomes too difficult to stir with a spoon, take slime out of
the bowl and use your hands to finish combining the ingredients.
NOTE: If slime is too sticky, add 1/4 TBSP contact solution to the mixture.
The slime will become significantly less sticky.
HOW TO…

Directions:
Think of something you are really good at or love to do. Now, come up
with a list of how to do what you came up with.
Create a step by step list that I would be able to
follow if I have never done what you are writing
about. Write down your list in your journal.

PLAN A DREAM VACATION

Directions:
Where have you always wanted to go in the world? What have you
always wanted to do? Think of what your dream vacation would be.
Where would you go? What would you do? Who would you take? Plan
your dream vacation and
everything that goes with it. Talk
about what you would need to
take, who you’d take, where you’d
go and why you want to go there,
and when you would go. Write this
down in your journal! Feel free to
draw in it to show what your
dream vacation destination is!
WRITE A LETTER TO AUGGIE

Directions:
What if you could talk to Auggie Pullman? What would
you tell him? Do you have any questions, tips, or
words of encouragement for him? In your journal,
write a letter to Auggie as if you were really going to
send it to him and he would read it.

CHOOSE KIND

Directions:
In Wonder, Auggie’s teacher gives his class the precept, “when given
the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind.” Can you
and your mom come up with different ways to be kind? Where are
some places you can be kind at? Is it only in school? Brainstorm
together and write your responses in your journal of how to be kind!
REFLECTING

Directions:
Life can be hard. Everyone deals with different
struggles every day. Write a reflection of a time that
you experienced something that was difficult or a
struggle you experienced. What happened? How did
you get through it? How did you feel during it and
after you overcame it?

CHALK IT UP

Directions:
Using the chalk and the definitions of vocabulary words in your learning
kit, you will read the definition on the card and write the word for that
definition with the chalk. Go through different definitions and test your
vocabulary skills! After, feel free to draw and color with the chalk!
TIMES TABLE HOPSCOTCH

Directions:
Using the sidewalk chalk in your learning kit,
draw a hopscotch outline. Then, put
different multiplication problems in each
square. Go through the hopscotch game to
practice your multiplication and to enjoy
some hopscotch! Once you’ve done the
same problems a few times, write down
different problems in the squares and play
again!
P.S. I attached a picture to help you see
what it should look like.

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY

Directions:
Read the coin riddles on notecards in with this sheet. Read them
carefully and come up with the answers. You will
need the coins (in a plastic bag) and the riddle
notecards. After you’re done, save your money or
buy something little the next time you go to the
store.
EASY AS PIE

Directions:
Complete the pie activity worksheet in with this sheet. Match the pie
slices with the fraction that goes with each one. Use a different colored
pencil, marker, or crayon for each pie slice when matching them.

I SPY WITH MY LITTLE EYE…

Directions:
Using the chalk in your learning kit, go outside
and play “I Spy.” Write down the different things
you see, or draw them with the chalk! Then,
after writing all of the different things down that
you see, practice saying what you wrote in full
sentences. For example, “I spy with my little
eye… something purple (a purple flower).”
POOL NOODLE SPELLING

Directions:
Using the pool noodle pieces with
letters written on them in your
learning kit, you will practice spelling
different words. You will form different
words with the letter pool noodles
provided and write down what words
you come up with in your journal. Try
to make both short and long words!

HOW MUCH CANDY IS IN THE JAR?

Directions:
Can you guess how many jellybeans are in the jar?
Using the jar of jelly beans in your learning kit, you will
estimate the number of jellybeans you think is inside
the jar and do some follow up activities with it!

What to do:
1. Estimate how many jellybeans are inside the
mason jar.
2. Open the jar, count the jellybeans, and compare your guess to the
actual total number of jellybeans.
3. Sort the jellybeans based on their colors on the paper provided.
4. Enjoy the jellybeans as a reward for your work!
LET’S GET BAKING

Directions:
Today you are going to be baking some chewy fudge
brownies! In doing this, you will be following directions
and measuring different ingredients with your mom’s
help to make some yummy brownies! Before completing this activity,
check with your mom to make sure it is okay to do it. Also, check for
any allergies you may have in the ingredients.

Ingredients
 ¼ cup water
 2/3 cup vegetable oil
 2 whole large eggs
 1 box of brownie mix (I used Baker’s Corner brand)
 Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Grease bottom of pan using nonstick cooking spray.
3. Stir brownie mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs in medium size
bowl until well blended.
4. Spread batter into a prepared pan.
5. Bake as directed on the brownie mix box.
6. To check to see if the brownies are done, insert
a toothpick 2 inches from side of pan. If it comes
out clean, they are all done!
7. Cool in pan for about 15-30 minutes before
serving.
8. Once cooled, enjoy your delicious brownies!
I WONDER…

Directions:
Think back to when you read the book, Wonder. What do you
remember? What were some important parts of the book or some
important things you learned from the characters in the book (Auggie,
Jack Will, Summer, Via, Julian, Mr. Browne, Mr. Tushman, Mom, Dad)?
What were some of their character traits? Write your thoughts in your
journal! Can you draw the different characters you talk about in your
journal to bring it to life?
KINDNESS JAR

Directions:
Using the empty jar in your learning kit, you will create a
kindness jar for your home! Using the marbles in your
learning kit as well, for each kind deed or act of kindness
you see or do, you will place a marble in the jar. See how
many marbles you can put into the jar over summer. No
cheating! Be kind and encourage others to be kind!
A PRECEPT A DAY…

Directions:
In the book, Wonder, Auggie’s teacher Mr. Browne gives his students a
new precept every day. He talks about it, explains it to them, and then
encourages them to follow it. In your learning kit, you will find a book
called, 365 Days of Wonder: Mr. Browne’s Precepts. In that book, there
are quotes for every day of the year!

I would like you to read ONE precept a day,


following the Wonder calendar that is also in
your learning kit. On every Friday, choose
your favorite precept that you read that
week and write a short reflection on it in
your journal. Write about why it is your
favorite, what it means to you, and how it
makes you feel. Also write about anything
else you find important about it.

Follow the calendar to see what to read each


day. Happy Reading!
WRITING A POEM

Directions:
Using your journal, go outside and write down everything you see or
hear. Listen for different noises such as cars, bugs, people, or animals.
Look for animals, insects, clouds, plants, or anything else. Write
everything down in your journal for later.

After you have spent some time outside observing your environment,
go inside and write your own
poem using some of the things
you wrote down. Have fun with
it! Draw pictures to create
illustrations that go along with
your poem to tell the story.

MULTIPLICATION CROSSWORD

Directions:
Using the worksheet provided with this
directions sheet, you will complete it by filling in
the blanks of each crossword puzzle to make the
multiplication equations true.
CAN YOU EVEN MADLIB?

Directions:
Using the Madlib worksheet provided with this direction sheet,
complete it by filling in prompts such as names, verbs, nouns,
adjectives, and foods. Come up with a crazy summer story and read it
to your mom once you finish it!

These are supposed to be crazy and funny, so be silly and fun with it!

FRUITY FRACTIONS

Directions:
Using the worksheet called, “Tropical Fruit
Fractions” in this envelope, you will use the
picture on it to answer the questions using
fractions based on how much of each kind of
fruit there is. After, enjoy some fresh, tasty
fruit at home!
GO FISH

Directions:
Play a game of Go Fish with your mom or a friend.
Using the deck of cards in your learning kit, play a
game of go fish and practice using different
numbers and matching them up.

How to play:
 Each player gets 5 cards.
 Moving clockwise, players take turns asking
another player of their choosing if they have
a card that would match one in the cards
you have.
o For example, if I was playing with you and I had a card with
the number 9, I would ask you if you had any cards with the
number 9 on it. If you do, you give me that card and I put
both my card and the one you gave me down as a match
and get one point.
 Each set of matching cards equals one point.

I REMEMBER…

Directions:
Think of your favorite book you have ever read. Picture it
in your mind and really try to remember any details about
it that you can. Once you have it in your mind, think of why
you like it so much. What was it about? What happened in
it? When did you last read it? How did it make you feel
when you read it? Reflect in your journal.
ORDERING FRACTIONS

Directions:
Using the dominoes in your learning kit, you will practice ordering
fractions. Go through different numbers, you can even play this with
someone else!

What to do:
• You will choose five dominoes and
turn them over.
• One part of the domino is the
numerator; the other part is the
denominator.
• Order the fractions from least to
greatest or greatest to least.

CHARACTER TRAITS

Directions:
Read a story of your choice. Pay attention to the characters in the story.
After reading, use your journal and write down all the main characters
from the story. Then, write what the character traits are for each
character.
VOCABULARY BINGO

Directions:
Using the bingo cards with vocabulary words already filled in and the
definitions sheet, you will play vocabulary bingo! Have your mom or a
friend read out the definitions of the vocab words. You must identify
the word being described based on the definition given and find it on
your bingo card. Play until you get 5 boxes in a row and call out BINGO!

COLOR BY MULTIPLICATION

Directions:
Get your colored pencils out, it is time to color by
solving multiplication problems! Follow the
directions on the coloring page in with this direction
sheet and color once you solve the equations!
KNOW IT ALL

Directions:
Play the “Know it All” game with Mom! Both you and
your mom need to each come up with different
questions about yourself to ask the other person,
such as “what is my favorite juice” or “what kind of
movies do I like?” You will write down your questions
on a piece of paper or in your journal, and write
down the answers for yourself before playing the
game. Once you both filled out your sheets, take
turns asking the other person of they know the
answer to your questions. Have fun and come up
with good questions!

EVEN/ ODD SORT

Directions:
For this activity, you will need the
dominoes from your learning kit.
Multiply the dots on the dominoes
then sort the answers by odd or
even numbers.

FIGURE ME OUT MATH

Directions:
Using the “figure me out” sheet in with this directions
sheet, complete the multiplication problems and figure
out some things about me based on the solutions you
get! Write down your answers underneath each
problem on the “figure me out” sheet.

INTERVIEW

Directions:
Choose someone to interview: your mom, a
friend, or even someone that you don’t know
very well. Using your journal, write down some interview questions
that you want to ask. After composing different questions, go interview
someone and record what they say in your journal!

WRITE YOUR OWN STORY

Directions:
Have you ever had a dream that you could remember vividly? That is a
way your brain writes its own stories. Using your journal, write your
own short story. Come up with different
characters, a setting, a theme, and main ideas
to incorporate in your writing. It can be a
scary, funny, romantic, or fantasy kind of
story. Use your imagination! Write your story
in your journal.

PANTRY MATH

Directions:
 Raid the pantry and pick out at least 6 food packages or cans to
use for this activity.
 Read the capacity of each item and line up the packages in order,
from least to greatest according to
their capacity.
 Compare the different capacities.

Directions:
This is it. The last activity in your learning kit for the summer. I hope
you enjoyed learning some things throughout summer and had fun!
Now that you have done all of your activities, what did you think? Write
in your journal what you thought about all of
the things you did. What did you like the most?
What did you like the least? Did you have at
least ONE favorite activity? I loved making this
kit for you, and I hope you loved it too!
