Suggested rationale for this category:

My work sample for Developmentally Appropriate Preschool Environments is the ECERS rating
scale. It fits this category because it gives a full check list of things that should be present and
happening in the classroom. I will use this in the future to rate my center and the room im in to make
sure it is meeting its expectation. I chose it as the best example of my work because it made me
realize everything my work environment has to be able to educate children to the best of my
knowledge and understand the tools available and how they can be used. I learned about the different
environment in centers and how they are used to educate children of all ages. Different environments
and tools are provided to accommodate different types of children with different abilities. Certain
materials are designed for older children where other materials are designed to better help younger
children but can vary depending on the level of the child’s education. My work sample shows my
understanding of how a developmentally appropriate environment contributes to a child’s
development by how I scored the center I observed and the different observations I was able to see
while filling out the rating scale such as supportive conversations that challenge the children to think
in a healthy and respectful way.
