In conjunction with the English Language Week, the English Language Society of
SMK Saribas will organise a number of activities from 4th to 6th of March. It aims to
promote the use of English Language among the students, thus improving their proficiency
in the language. Some of the activities to be carried out include scrabble, language quizzes,
crossword puzzles, poetry recitation and essay writing competition.

All these activities will be held in the school hall, Dewan Sri Rimbas, at 3 p.m.,
during the three days. The essay writing competition will be for the lower secondary

English teachers.

Tips for a Better Sleep

Having Afternoon Naps Exercise Regularly

Afternoon naps should not be longer
than half an hour. These naps would enhance
performance and make you more alert.
However, avoid sleeping on a bed where you
would likely go into a deep sleep.
You should exercise everyday because it
helps to improve the quality of your sleep.
Most of us may be mentally exhausted but not
physically. Therefore, you need to do simple
exercises such as jogging and swimming.

Avoid Caffeine and Sugary Food Having a Clear Mind

Taking coffee or tea especially in the
evenings can be problematic. All these
beverages may keep you awake as the caffeine
stimulates your brain. Similarly, food with
high sugar content could make you
hyperactive.
Before going to bed, put aside all your
worries. Take a few deep breaths to regulate
your blood circulation and help you to relax.
Furthermore, do not use electronic gadgets
before going to bed.

Read the article below.

Did you know, a kitchen can be a dangerous place if you are not careful? You can keep
your kitchen safe by following these tips.
First, make sure all wires, cords and plugs on your appliances are not frayed. The plugs
should have 3-point grounded connections. This would include toasters, blenders, microwave
ovens, cake mixers, coffee makers and other electrical appliances. You should also make sure
that the blender is unplugged and switched off before touching the blade.
When you have pots and pans cooking on the stove, do not leave them unattended.
Also, avoid wearing inappropriate clothing such as loose sleeves and sweaters while cooking.
Make sure to keep dish towels, pot holders and oven mitts away from the stove. Keep matches
and lighters in places where children cannot reach easily. It is also good to keep a fire
extinguisher in or near the kitchen. However, the fire extinguisher should not be kept too close
to the stove.
When cutting things with a knife, always cut facing away from your body, as it can slip
and injure you. Furthermore, do not try to catch the knife if it falls. It is better for it to hit the
floor than to cut your hand.
Make sure to clean up spills immediately as wet floors are slippery. Keep the kitchen
floor clear of toys and other items. Finally, you should put a childproof lock not only on the
medicine or detergent cabinets but also on your oven.
