Lipid
:Introduction
A lipid is defined as a water-insoluble
biomolecule which has a high solubility
in non polar such as ether. The simplest
lipids are the fats, which are
triacylglycerol made up of one glycerol
.and three fatty acids
The function of lipid storage of energy ,
.structural functions

:Lipid tests
 Determination of acid value
 Determination of saponification
 The estimation of blood
CHOLESTEROL

Experiment1: determination of acid

:value
The acid value is a number of mg of
potassium hydroxide required to
neutralize the free fatty acid present in
. one g of fat

:Objective
 Calculate the acid value of a given
fat sample

:Materials
 Oil samples(olive oil)
 Fat solvent 50ml
 Phenolphthalein indicator 10g/1 in
alchohol
 KOH
 Conical flask 250ml
 Burettes
 heater

:Procedure
 Weight 10g fat in 250ml conical flask
 Heat upto 45C
 Add 50ml of fat of solvent
 Add 1ml phenolphthalein
indicator,mix
 Titrate with 0.1 mol/1 KOH until faint
pink color persist for 30 sec
