With the increasing of seafood demand worldwide, especially hybrid grouper in Asia markets.
Malaysia is the pioneer in hybrid grouper production and being introduces worldwide with high
production recorded in Vietnam and Indonesia. Common practice most of broodstocks were
maintenance at open cage system, which exposes to unpredictable abiotic factors. This resulted in
unpredictable quality production. With such kind of issues, AMT Aquaculture Technology CO. LTD.
take up the initiative to establish fully indoor recirculating aquaculture system for grouper
broodstock development. With expertise and system available in AKUATROP, UMT, AMT
approaching AKUTROP to establish an affordable, functional and manageable system for grouper
broodstock development. With this, AMT offer a total budget of RM150,000.00 as initial kick-start
contract research grant to AKUATROP for 3 years with additional budget to support 2 post-graduate
students. In addition, AMT also appointed Dr Liew Hon Jung as their scientific advisor to advise on-
site hatchery development and production in Vietnam.
