 CHAPTER 1
PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE
INTRODUCTION

Rationale

Our poultry farming is fundamental to our daily lives because it provide meat
and eggs, both of which are quite nutritious and high in protein. It also offers a
means of support and job possibilities at poultry farms, poultry processing plants,
meat and egg distribution routes, etc. Pillows, fanciful items, and oddities are other
things that are made from poultry feathers. Poultry farming requires very little water
for both drinking and cleaning. Poultry droppings are rich in nitrogen and organic
material and hence, are considered valuable as fertilizers.

Furthermore, how can we increase the number of hatching eggs in our poultry
farming conveniently and easier. In poultry, natural incubation by the female bird is
the simplest way of hatching eggs that we call a broody hen. But broody hen is not
effective or enough when it comes to have good poultry farming because broody hen
when they lay eggs and begins to incubate their eggs they will abandon their eggs,
and they’re also become aggressive when they’re hatching eggs that can cause our
poultry production slow in developing poultry farm.

Thus, we used the egg incubator to develop the production of poultry farm
for convenience and efficient in poultry farming. Proper utilizing of egg incubator
should be conducted for its long-term usage.
Theoretical Background
According to Garrigus (2011) mass production of chicken meat and eggs
began in the early 20th century, but by the middle of that century meat production
had outstripped egg production as a specialized industry. The market for chicken
meat has grown dramatically since then, with worldwide exports reaching nearly 12.5
million metric tons (about 13.8 million tons) by the early 21st century.

Poultry production have shown good business for long term investment.
Poultry farming today is a huge business that is split into several operations including
hatcheries, pullet farms for meat production, or farms for egg production. The poultry
industry provides a good employment opportunity along with agricultural activities.
The poultry entrepreneurs are very much concentrated in utilizing the farm optimally
enriching maximum output through selling the eggs and other allied products like
feathers, gunny bags and poultry litters etc.

Poultry farming business is highly profitable if it is properly run under the

acceptable methods. Each type of livestock farming, poultry included, follows specific
operational principles if they must run profitably, but when such principles are
ignored by the farm authority, it causes in serious losses. The over motivation for
starting any business is to gain profit. It became unfortunate. However, many poultry
farmers don’t take the time to want to learn why some poultry farmers become failed.
It is widely known that most poultry farmers have been forced out of business when
they could not be able to operate business profitably. To gain success in the project
of poultry farming, lots of works are involved. According to the expert, “it is not for a
lazy man’s business”.

The breeds of chickens are generally classified as American, Mediterranean,

English, and Asiatic. While there are hundreds of breeds in existence, commercial
facilities rely on only a select few that meet the rigorous demands of industrial
production. The single-comb White Leghorn, a Mediterranean breed widely used
throughout the global egg industry, is a prolific layer that quickly reaches sexual
maturity. The Cornish Cross, a hybrid of Cornish and White Rock, is one of the most-
 common breeds for industrial meat production and is esteemed for its compact size
and rapid, efficient growth.

Small farms and backyard flocks utilize a much wider variety of breeds and
hybrids. Common American breeds include the Plymouth Rock, the Wyandotte,
the Rhode Island Red, and the New Hampshire, all of which are dual-purpose
breeds that are good for both eggs and meat. The Asiatic Brahma, thought to have
originated in the United States from birds imported from China, is popular for both its
meat and its large brown eggs.

Due to our personal experiences with poor egg hatching rates and poor maintenance
in chicken farming at our Barangay Taloto poultry operation, we decided to perform this
study. In order to maximize the likelihood of success, incubators were added to our chicken
farming operations. Additionally, a successful chicken farm may substantially benefit from
good incubator care. But back then, we noticed that our incubator was not well maintained
since we often interrupted it.

So, this study was conducted the maintenance of incubator. It is important to

maintain our utilization of incubator to come up with long term usage such as prevent
damages. And proper maintenance should be conducted so that our poultry farming will be
productive, not just be sanitize or clean but also, we will maintain the proper amount
temperature, humidity, and etc.

knowledge and capability how to run a poultry
business in Barangay Taloto
 Statement of the problem

This study is aims for maintaining the usage of incubator for its long-term
usage and what are the possible method for the maintenance of incubator in
Barangay Taloto. So, we undertake different methods and practices by asking the
owner of the poultry production in Barangay Taloto. Finding out what is the best to
do to maintain the right usage of incubator for long-term usage are challenging and
enjoyable.

It addresses the following specific questions:

1. How many hours are allotted for the maintaining the incubator in Barangay Taloto

The Participants This study will let the participants know the method

The Poultryman This study can make the poultryman help the participants

understand more about on method maintenance needed for participants for

Future Researcher The outcome of this study will be beneficial to the neither

present or future researchers for it may be one of their basis.

Poultry Administrator The result of this study will help the administration to

conduct enough method of maintaining hours for maintenance of incubator usage.

Scope and Limitation

This study is conducted to determine the best potential methods for

maintaining the incubator in Barangay Taloto operational over the long term. As a

result, we ask the owner of the poultry farm and his poultryman in Barangay Taloto

about various techniques and maintenance. It can be tough and time-consuming to

figure out how to maintain an incubator's proper use for long-term use. This study

is limited to five (5) participants of senior high school of DCPNHS who will be

conducted the proper maintenance of using incubator and 2 facilitators ( the owner

and the poultry farm) of poultry farm who will help the participants for maintaining

the usage of incubator.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

Application- the action of putting something into operation.

Incubator- is a device simulating avian incubation by keeping eggs warm at a

particular temperature range and in the correct humidity with a turning
mechanism to hatch them.

Maintenance- the process of maintaining or preserving someone or

something, or the state of being maintained.

Orientation -the act or process of orienting or of being oriented These

materials are for the orientation of new employees.

Poultry farm- Poultry farming is the form of animal husbandry which raises
domesticated birds such as chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese to produce
meat or eggs for food.

Poultryman- one who raises domestic fowls especially on a commercial scale

for the production of eggs and meat.

Specialization- the process of concentrating on and becoming expert in a

particular subject.
 Research Methodology

Research Design

This study utilizes the quantitative descriptive research. The survey attempted to
answer specific questions with the use of an interviewer schedule in order to acquire
sufficient information for the study. In this design, the information gathered served as
reference point in maintaining the incubator in poultry production.

Research Design

The location of this study is only within the vicinities in small poultry farm of
Barangay Taloto Coastal Road, Tagbilaran City

Research Respondents

The chosen respondents of this study are 3 facilitators of poultry farms who perform
how they maintain and utilize properly the usage of incubator. The accessible
respondent of this study comprises of 5 respondents Research Instrument.

Research instrument

This study utilized a structured one on one interview to the facilitator of poultry farm,
for maintaining the incubator and how its properly manage.
 CHAPTER II

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

The chapter presents the information and data gathered by the researcher
throughout their study The results are properly presented according to the Sub-
problem Along with the data are the analysis and interpretation

The researchers choose the facilitator of the poultry farm. These people are the
target respondent of the searchers The researchers conducted an interview along
with a guide questionnaire

The incubator maintenance was break down for Orientation, Specialization, and
application of the maintenance of incubator in Barangay Taloto, Tagbilaran City.

CHAPTER III
SUMMARY, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS
 Summary
The study sought to determine the maintenance of using incubator in poultry
production in Barangay Taloto. The facilitator of small poultry farm in barangay Taloto
had train for the participants for maintaining and techniques for enhancing the poultry
production in Barangay Taloto. The development of poultry production will supply the
community the harvest of egg and meat. Egg and meat are rich in protein that can
help children in community to prevent malnutrition. And also offers a means of support
and job possibilities at poultry farms, poultry processing plants, meat and egg
distribution routes, etc. Maintaining and reviewing new proper wiring and installation
has conducted within the facility. The researchers conducted an actual interview along
with the questionnaire to serve as guide during the interview. The target audience of
the researchers are the Barangay employees, one electrical administrator, and the
residents of barangay Tiptip. In doing the interview, the researchers faced many
challenges like the proper wiring program and specialization of each electrical system,
especially the problem that the researcher’s respondent would not like to cooperate. In
the course of time the researchers lengthen their forbearance and offer their best
attempt to gather all the data needed for this study, which leads the researchers
findings of the study.
