SECTION I.

THE ASSESSMENT OF COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE (30 points)

Read the text and do the tasks below the text.
Sports
People think children should play sports. Sports are fun and children stay healthy while playing
with others. However, playing sports can have negative effects on children. It may produce
feelings of poor self-esteem or aggressive behaviour in some children. According to a research
on kids and sports, 40 million kids play sports in the US. Of these, 18 million say they were
shouted at or had an unpleasant experience while playing sports. This leaves many children with
a bad impression of sports. They think sports are just too aggressive.
Many researchers believe that adults, especially parents and coaches, are the main cause of too
much aggression in children's sports. They believe children copy aggressive adult behaviour.
Then this behaviour is encouraged through both positive and negative feedback. Parents and
coaches are powerful teachers because children usually look up to them. Often these adults
behave aggressively themselves, sending children the message that winning is everything. In
addition, media makes violence seem exciting as children watch adult sports games and see
violent behaviour replayed over and over on television.
As a society, we really need to deal with this problem. Parents and coaches should act as better
examples for children. They also need to teach children better values. They should teach children
to enjoy themselves whether they win or not. Winning is not everything. Moreover, children
should not be allowed to continue to play when they are hurt. Sending a child with an injury into
a game gives the child the message that health is not as important as winning. If we make some
basic changes, children might learn to enjoy sports again.

All the novels is good, but I would recommend to my best friend to read novel by 2 2
George Orwell «Nineteen Eighty-Four». 1 1
This is one of the most haunting and intriguing novel that you'll ever read. Set in a 0 0
dystopian erstwhile future, this novel demonstrates how much effect can the governing
institutions have on our minds and how, immeasurable power can be the most horryfing 1 1
thing for the world. A world where you are constantly watched, where thinking is a 0 0

SECTION IV. THE ASSESSMENT OF CIVIC AND PRAGMATIC COMPETENCES

(30 points)
Write a 180-200-word coherent text expressing your attitude on the given topic.
Some parents believe that pupils should not be allowed to use the Internet on their 2 2
mobile phones or other electronic devices in schools. Agree or/and disagree. Justify 1 1
your opinion. Present two examples. Use the following plan: 0 0

∙ conclusion. 1 1

Although some people think that it is good these days if children own cell phones,
others think it is of no use. In my opinion, I think children should not be given mobile 2 2
phones as it can lead to addiction and wrong usage. 1 1
On the one hand, some people think that it is better if children own cell phones. They 0 0
think that cell phones can not only act as an emergency device for when of danger but
can also help in communicating with their children. As both the parents are working in 4 4
today's time, it helps them to be in touch with their kids and keep them informed about 3 3
their activities. For example, according to a recent survey, 40% of parents feel good at 2 2
the workplace when they communicate with their children twice a day through cell 1 1
phones. As a result, cell phones have become an important communicating device 0 0
between parent and children.
On the other hand, some people believe that giving cell phones to children is of no use.
They point to the fact that children use it for socializing and playing games, which 3 3
divert their attention from studies. For instance, 45% of children who own cell phones 2 2
were caught using them between the lectures in school. Moreover, following too many 1 1
social websites can lead to bad habits in children like bullying, delinquency, and 0 0
truancy. Therefore, it is better if children do not have cell phones which encourages
them to spend time studying and participating in extracurricular activities at school. 2 2
In conclusion, while people may vary in their opinion, I think children ought to not be 1 1
given cell phones. Having this device can not only make them addictive but also 0 0
expose to bad habits, which will divert their attention from the main aim of studies.
Communicating in case of emergency have been taken care by schools and teachers 1 1
these days, so instead of providing extra safety to the children, they ought to be sincere 0 0
and independent for their own schedule, which is a need of an hour.
