Care on The Rock

Policy and Procedure

Mission Statement: It is the mission of Care on The Rock Child


Development Center to provide an atmosphere of learning and
caring in a Christian environment which meets the developmental
stages of each child's emotional, physical, intellectual, and spiritual
needs.

Subject: Discrimincation
● Care on The Rock does not discrimination on the basis of race, creed, sex, national
origin, religion, or disbailty.

Subject: Discipline
● The Center is committed to following the guidelines set forth by the Commonwealth of
Kentucky when dicio;ing methods are required.
○ The Center Plan for Disciplining a Child:
1. Establish clear and consistent rules for the children.
2. Redirection and helping children understand proper behavior in the
situation
3. Remove the child from the situation.
4. Contact parent if unable to redirect child in appropriate
*Children may not be hit, slapped, spankerd, or disciplined in a physical fashion.*
*Staff will never raise their voice at children for disciplinary purposes.*
* Toilet training or rest will not be used as a form of discipline. Humiliation or teasing will never
be used as a method of discipline.*

Subject: Smoking Policy


● There is no smoking or tobacco use allowed inside or outside the Child Development
Center. State law prohibits children from observing anyone using tobacco products.

Dress Code for Employees


● Khaki colored pants or shorts, the shorts must touch the top of the knee. Staff are also
allowed to wear scrub pants. Comfortable shoes are expected; preferably sneakers or
tennis shoes ( no flip flops, sandals, or open toed shoes). Good hygiene is expected at all
times.
Bite Policy
● Biting is a natural development stage for children.
○ The following steps will be taken if a biting incident occurs at the Center:
1. The biting will be interrupted with a firm “biting is not okay.”
2. Staff will stay calm and not overreact.
3. The bitten child will be comforted with help from the biter to teach
empathy.
4. Staff will remove the biter from the situation.
5. The wound of the bitten child shall be assessed and cleaned with
spa and water. If it is determined that there was blood exposure
further steps will be taken.
6. The parents of both children will be notified of the biting incident.
7. Confidentiality of all children involved will be mainited
8. The bitten area will continue to be observed by parents and
teachers for signs of infection.

Authorized Release of a Child


● A parent must provide written documentation as to whom the child can be released. A
photo id can be on record for up to four approved persons.

Sanitizing Procedure
● All toys will be cleaned in warm soapy water, with a brush, rinised, immersed in
sanitizing solution/ bleach water solution and allowed time to dry.

Toys and Food


● Children do not need to bring food or toys from home (other than infants 12 months and
younger).

Staff Hand Washing


● YOu must wash your hands before and after diapering.
● Before and after serving food.
● Before putting gloves on.
● After cleaning up messes.
● After coming in from outside or being away from the building.
● Before and after you eat.

Child Care Orientation


● A 6 hour orientation is to be completed that identifies practices staff will follow.
○ Reconize and report child abuse
○ Developmentally appropriate practices
○ Basic health and sanitization procedure
Injury Occurrence
● A Boo Boo Alert will be completed by staff that was with the child and signed by the
parent. If injury occurs that needs medical assistance. OIG will be called within 24 hours
of occurrence.

Holiday Policy
● The center will be closed for holidays designated by the director. Parents will be given a
two weeks notice of closure for holiday.

Fire Drill
● The center will participate in a monthly fire drill. All staff participating will sign a “drill
sheet.”

Family Involvement Policy


● The center will participate in a minimum, but not limited to 2 family activities per year.

Falsification of Records
● Any staff member to be noncompliant with record keeping will be terminated.

Dress for Children


● Children need to wear play clothes and tennis shoes.

TV Viewing
● The center uses technology for educational purposes.
○ Screen time is only permitted for school age children: 15 minutes on the computer
per child if they choose.

Toothbrushing
● Brushing will occur after morning breakfast. Staff will assist the child in completing
bushing by rinsing and shaking excess water off, then placing the toothbrush in its
ventilated container.

First Aid Policy


● A first aid kit will be provided at the center at all times. If a child receives first aid, a Boo
Boo report shall be completed by the staff with the child.

Suspected Abuse and Neglect

This policy was developed to assit chid acre staff by porviding guilesd for the detection of
reporting of supsedt cases of child abuse and nglect. All who work with children are legally
required to report abuse and/or neglect and cannot shift the responsibility of reporting to anyone
else.

● KRS 620.030(1) - Anyone with a reasonable suspicion that a child is dependent, abused
or neglected is rquried to make a report to the Cabinet for Health and Family Services
(CHFS).
● To report child abuse and neglect call toll-free any of the numbers listed below. (877)

● Report Online - non-emergency only. Monitored from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern time,
Monday through Friday. Reports will not be reviewed during evenings, weekends or
state holidays.
● Report by Fax - non-emergency only
● Call 911 in case of an emergency

Child Maltreatment Plan


● No child under any circumstances will be mistreated in any way. If suspicion of
maltreatment were to arise, staff should notify the director immediately and fill out a
Maltreatment Concern sheet. After completion of investigation, if the staff person is
found guly, termination will occur immediately. If it is within the scope of criminal
charges, local law enforcement will be contacted.
