Lord Ayyanar is a village based God(the protector of village people, crops and cattle) in

most of the rural parts of Tamilnadu. He can be identified by his frightening

appearance, long and curled mustache, holding a lengthy sickle in right arm, and horses
standing before him.

People use to conduct festivals for gathering all his devotees to show their honor to him.
During the festival time lamb/cock are sacrificed and presented to Lord Aiyyanar as a
token of respect and the same will be served to all devotees.

Ayyanar worshipping will take place many times in villages for example before sowing
seeds and while harvesting the crops. Temples will not be built for lord Ayyanar, instead
his statues are kept in open areas, surrounded by giant trees.
