ACADEMIC YEAR 2018/2019

Class/no:
Grade : VIII (Eight)
Score :

1. A pendulum passes A-B-C-B-A in 4 seconds as shown in Picture 1.

Position A and C is 2 cm above position B. Assume that along its
movement there is no energy loss.
a. State the position of pendulum in which its potential energy the
biggest.
b. State the position of pendulum in which its kinetic energy the
biggest.
c. Find the period and frequency of the pendulum. Picture 1
d. Find the total energy in the pendulum at point C
e. Find the speed of the pendulum at point B.
f. In order to make the period twice of before, find the properties that should be changes
g. During the experiment, the pendulum is making a resonance with a voice that produce by
guitar. By taking the speed of the pendulum is 8 cm/s and resonance is made by one
fourth of its wavelength, find the depth of the guitar hole.

2. A pulley system as shown in Picture 2 used to lift a

load with mass of 100 kg. Find:
a. the MA of pulley in Picture 2
b. the minimal effort needed to lift the load.
c. the work done to lift the load by 2 m.

3. A boy stood near a cliff as shown in Picture 3.

Suddenly he saw lightning and thunder 6 sec after the
lightning. It made him spontaneously shout. He got
the echo of his shout 3 sec later. If the speed of the
Picture 2 Picture 3
sound is 340 m/s, find:
a. The distance of the boy to the source of the thunder.
b. The distance of the boy from the cliff.

4. A hydraulic piston as shown in picture 4 used to lift a mini car with mass of 100 kg. The area of
piston 1 is 2 m 2 and the area of piston 2 is 10 m 2. A stone
released from 5 m above piston 1 as the source of the force.
Find:
a. The minimum mass of the stone needed to lift the car
b. The total energy of the stone at 5 m on the top of piston 1
c. The work done by stone to the surface of piston 1
d. Speed of the liquid inside the piston (Assume that all of the
energy from the stone absorbed by the liquid inside the
piston and the mass of the liquid is equal to the mass of the Picture 4
stone)
e. Mechanical advantage of using the piston Picture 4

5. A bottle trash moves with the water as shown in Picture 5. The

bottle moves down and up for 5 times in 10 sec. The displacement of
the bottle from the top to the bottom is 10 cm and the distance from
one crest to another crest of the water is 4 cm, find:
a. The period and frequency of the wave
b. The amplitude of the wave
c. The wavelength
d. The speed of the wave Picture 5

6. A candle placed 5 cm in the front of a converging lens with radius of 20 cm. Find the position
and magnification of the image and also the characteristics of it.
After several times, the candle moved away from lens by 10 cm from its original position. Find
the position, magnification and the characteristics of the image now.

7. To detect the position of the submarine from the seabed, a pulse of wave with speed of 200 m/s
transferred from a ship on the sea. In the water 5% of the speed reduced due to the water
friction. Two echo detected in 8 sec and 10 sec after the pulse transferred. Assume that the first
echo is from the submarine and the second echo is from the seabed, find the distance between
the submarine and the seabed.

8. Three elements Magnesium, Aluminum and Phosphor. The details of each element shown as
below.

Find :

a) The number of electron, proton and neutron of each element

b) the type of chemical bonding formed (the tendency) and also the charge of each element after
the bonding
c) Isotopes of sodium if the neutron added by 1 and reduce by 1

9. In a bottle there is a mixture that consists of two type of syrups with pulp. The boiling points of
the syrups are 80⁰C and 85⁰C. Verry needs the pulp and the syrups separately, please give him
the proper separation technique with sequenced procedure.
