Respected sir,
The following report entitled Functional gauge
model for an home appliance is submitted in the partial
fulfilment of the programme Design For Manufacture
Assembly. The report is based on a cad model of a gauge
for inspecting stove.

ABSTRACT

This paper presents a comprehensive analysis to examine the

effectiveness of the functional gauge for inspecting a home
appliance, that is used to enhance the product design. The
model is chosen with the principle and background of
functional gauge with the aspects that explains about the
datum axis change, GD&T used for gauge. The product is
then designed, considering the manufacturing and assembly
aspects and a comparative study using functional gauge.
Therefore the cad design of a functional gauge was proposed
to increase the efficiency in inspecting the workpiece. As a
result, the design is unique and meant only to inspect such
designs.

Introduction:-

Plan for Manufacturing and gathering (DFMA) is a system of item

improvement to diminish the expense of creation so as to contend with different makers,
while expanding the benefit margin. Creators have been working for a long time for potential
improvement issues related with an idea. Customarily, the thought was that an able
fashioner ought to be acquainted with assembling forms so as to dodge superfluous
increments to assembling costs.Gage design principles/tolerances and allowances. ... By
learning the proper application of functional gauging and inspection techniques you will
increase your production of quality parts.Position is one of the most useful and most
complex of all the symbols in GD&T. The two methods of using Position discussed on this
page will be RFS or regardless of feature size and under a material condition (maximum
material condition or least material condition).

Position in terms of the axis, point or plane defines how much variation a feature can have
from a specified exact true location. The tolerance is a 2 or 3-Dimensional tolerance zone
that surrounds the true location where a feature must lie. Usually, when specifying true
position, a datum is referenced with x and y coordinates that are basic dimensions (do not
have tolerances). This means that you will have an exact point where the position should be
and your tolerance specifies how far from this you can be. The location is most
often positioned with two or three datums to exactly locate the reference position. The true
position is usually called out as a diameter to represent a circular or cylindrical tolerance
zone. (However, it can also be called out as a distance for X and Y coordinates as well – see
final notes).Position utilized with Maximum Material Condition turns into a helpful control.
Genuine situation with a component of size can control the area, direction and the size of the
element at the same time. MMC genuine position is useful for making useful checks that can
be utilized to rapidly embed into the part check whether everything is inside spec. While
genuine situation on its own controls where the reference point areas need to lie, genuine
situation in MMC for a gap sets a base size and positional area of the gap to keep up useful
control. It does this by permitting a reward resistance to be added to the part. As a section
draws nearer to the MMC, the imperatives become more tightly and the opening must be
nearer to its position. Be that as it may, if the gap is somewhat bigger, it can wander from its
actual position further and still permit legitimate capacity.

II. Aim of the Paper

The major purpose of this study is to determine the Design Efficiency using functional gauge
and also to enhance the time of inspection through a cad model. The objective below laid
the foundation of the study:

1. To determine the Design efficiency Using functional gauge with true positioning for a gas
stove pan support holder by considering necessary parts in contact.

2. To determine whether the product is well positioned using a model of pin gauge.

III. Methodology

a. Product Selection

In this study, a gas stove support holder is chosen as a case study.Firstly the product is
measured using measuring tools as required. Auto-CAD software was used to develop the
drawing of the component.A rough 2d sketch and an actual picture of the product is given
below. Then using a functional gauge (model) it is inspected. Figure 1 represents a rough
cad model figure 2 represents a actual picture of the stove support holder and figure 3
explains its use.

b. Gauge and its principle

The PIN GAUGE is the pin shape according to fixed size precisely. The primary purpose of
PIN GAUGE is to measure and inspect the diameter of small holes, it also can be used as a
test bar for geometric deviations measurements.

■Material
Steel, Carbide, Ceramic

■Shape
Straight type, Shank type
* PIN GAUGE with shank is less affected by temperature. You can handle the shank with
bare hands.

C. Design aspects

datum is theoretical exact plane, axis or point location that GD&T or dimensional tolerances
are referenced to. ... All GD&T symbols except for the form tolerances (straightness,
flatness, circularity and cylindricity) can use datums to help specify what geometrical control
is needed on the part.

If you want to ensure that two parts never interfere, or limit the amount of interference
between the parts when they are at their worst tolerances, MMC can be called out. Take a
shaft that must go through a hole with clearance between the two.
The MMC of the shaft would be the Maximum diameter
The MMC of the hole would be its Minimum diameter
If you made sure that the MMC of the shaft was always smaller than the MMC of the hole,
you guarantee there will always be clearance between the parts. This is important for any
tolerance stack to ensure that when the tolerances are at their least desirable condition, the
part still functions properly.

III Analysis using product and gauge

A. Figure 4 illustrates a rough sketch of workpiece and functional gauge (pin gauge)
attached to a circle material.
B. Figure 5 illustrates the actual pin gauge to check the limits of the stove holder.

Figure 5:- actual pin gauge model

C. Top is to keep a hold where the bottom is meant for measuring the required limits which
is under GD&T format

D. As the product comes from manufacturing the unit check the limit with the model gauge
which is mentioned in figure 5

E. This will in change will let us know if the product can be considered or not.

IV. Summary:

i. Initially the product is chosen and a rough CAD drawing is done for the component.

ii. After which a reference gauge is drawn as it performs to be a functional gauge

(unique to this product).

iii. The product is then designed using cad with GT&D and true positioning with proper
annotation.

iv. Then the product is checked with the PIN gauge that is designed

V. Conclusion

This chiefly focusses on time the executives and its just on a one of a kind check that its
motivation is just implied for that.by considering the genuine situating with the element of
size we can control the area, direction and the size of the component at the same time.
MMC genuine position is useful for making practical measures that can be utilized to rapidly
embed into the part check whether everything is inside spec.

The expense of creation drops significantly when resiliences are expanded. Geometric
tolerancing permits useful dimensioning and gaging with reward resilience with legitimate
utilization of MMC callouts. useful gaging of the physical kind for an uncommon condition
like MMC is valuable and advantaGEOUS

So in the event that we set aside more effort to carry out a responsibility, the cost (which is
shrouded variable) increments - like the wages will be more for the examiner, rather than
estimating numerous parts a day, we measure just two or three ones (contingent upon the
kind of the technique utilized). This defers the procedure of supply to the client. Other than
practical gages never under any circumstance acknowledge a terrible part, additionally it
truly speaks to utilitarian interface of the concerned highlights. In addition with the use of
GD&T appropriately the increase is more and nature of the items is guaranteed.
