Electrical system - body

Radio

Model 140

A new MB-radio (one piece unit with 4 output


stages and integrated fader switch) is installed
as standard equipment.

The adaptation of the radio to the sound


system is accomplished via a coding
connection (arrow) in the wiring harness.

The radio is connected via two connectors,


which are according to DIN-ISO standards.
Connector, 16-pole:
Voltage supply,
Antenna control,
Speed-dependent volume control,
Telephone mute signal,
Sound system signals.

Connector, 10-pole:
CD changer,
Coding of the various audio systems.

The RF antenna cable is attached via an angle connector.

Automatic antenna

Model 140
The electronics are separated from the
antenna drive unit and are located in a
separate housing which is mounted on the
automatic antenna (M11).

Bumper/rear window antenna

Model 140.07
The rear bumper antenna is designed for FM
reception. The signal is routed via the FM
bumper antenna amplifier (A2/15), installed on
the left side in the trunk, to the AM rear
window antenna amplifier (A2/16) on the left
C-pillar.

The integrated rear window antenna is


designed for AM reception. The signal is
routed to the AM rear window antenna
amplifier (A2/16) on the left C-pillar.
From the AM rear window antenna amplifier
(A2/16) the signals are routed via the RF
antenna cable to the radio (A2).

A noise suppression capacitor (arrow) with


220 µF is installed in the positive voltage
supply wire to the rear window defroster
element to prevent interference from the
heating element.

Note:
The previously known automatic antenna
remains installed for cellular telephone use
only. Customers with model 140.070 should
be advised that the automatic antenna will be
inoperative (retracted) unless the optional
dealer-installed MB cellular telephone is
turned on.

Sound system (Bose®)

Model 140
The left/right speakers audio power amplifier
(N40/3) was adapted to the new radio with
four output stages.

Model 140
Model 140 telephone armrest

The armrest was adapted for the installation of


the telephone handset.

Model 140.07

The previously known automatic antenna (now


without antenna splitter) remains installed for
cellular telephone use only (no longer a tri-
band antenna).
