The two pie charts below illustrate the changes in the contributions of six different
industry areas to the Turkish economy in the years 2000 and 2016.

Overall, at the beginning of the period, agriculture made up the largest proportion
while the least figure came from construction. In comparison, after nearly two
decades, Health and education led the most significant percentage whereas the lowest
contribution was made by Finance, Business and Other services.

In 2000, the largest contribution to the Turkish economy came from the agriculture
sector, with a percentage of 24%. However, this figure had experienced a dramatic
drop of 14% to 10% by 2016. Similar patterns can be seen in the two fields Leisure
and Hospitality and Government. Leisure and Hospitality accounted for 17% and
Government comprised 12% of the whole chart at the beginning of the period. After
sixteen years, in 2016, both sectors declined by 3% to 14% and 12% respectively.
The proportion of contribution from Healthcare and Education remained stable over
the period.

Meanwhile, the figures for the four other sections rose from 2000 to 2016. The
percentage of Construction’s contribution to the Turkish economy was only 3% in
2000 but experienced a threefold increase to one-tenth in 2016. Similarly, there was a
slight growth from 14% to 16% in the Trade, Utilities and Transport area after 16
years. Manufacturing which occupied 8% and Finance, Business and other services
with a percentage of only 5% in 2000 also experienced an upward trend, rose to 12%
and 8% respectively.
