Protection Against Harm

‫‏‬: ‫‏ قال رسول ﷲ‬:‫قا ‏ل‬ ‫وعن عثامن بن عفان‬

:‫‏ما من عبد يقول يف صباح كل يوم ومساء كل ليلة‏‏‬
‫بسم ﷲ الذي ال يرض مع اسمه يشء يف األرض وال يف السامء‬
‫ إال مل يرضه يشء‏‬،‫ ثالث مرات‬،‫وهو السميع العليم‬
(‫)رواه أبو داود والرتمذي‬

‘Uthman bin ‘Affan reported:

The Messenger of Allah said,
“He who recites three times every morning and evening:
Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma’as-mihi shai’un fil-ardi
wa la fis-sama’i, wa Huwas-Sami’ul-’Alim
(In the Name of Allah with Whose Name there is protection
against every kind of harmin the earth or in the heaven,
and He is the All-Hearing and All- Knowing)
nothing will harmhim.”

،‫ واملعوذتني حني متيس وحني تصبح‬،‫‏ قل هو ﷲ أحد‬:‫‏اقرأ‏‬
‫ تكفيك من كل يشء‏‏‬،‫ثالث مرات‬
(‫)رواه أبو داود والرتمذي‬

‘Abdullah bin Khubaib reported:

The Messenger of Allah said to me,
“Recite Surah Al-Ikhlas and Al-Mu’awwidhatain
(Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas) three times at
dawn and dusk. It will suffice you in all respects.”

Anas reported:
The Prophet used to supplicate:
Allahumma inni a’udhu bika minal-barasi, wal- jununi,
wal-judhami, wa sayyi’il-asqami
(OAllah! I seek refuge in You fromleucoderma, insanity,
leprosy and evil diseases.)

،‫ وتحول عافيتك‬،‫اللهم إين أعوذ بك من زوال نعمتك‬
‫ وجميع سخطك‏‬،‫وفجاءة نقمتك‬

'Abdullah bin 'Umar reported:

The Messenger of Allah used to supplicate:
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matika,
wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fuja'ati niqmatika,
wa jami'i sakhatika
(OAllah! I seek refuge in You against the declining of
Your Favours, passing of safety, the suddenness of Your
punishment and all that which displeases You.)

Supplication of Prophet Yunus

ُ ‫ ق ََال ق ََال َر ُس‬،‫ َع ْن َس ْع ٍد‬،‫ َع ْن أَبِي ِه‬،‫َع ْن إِبْ َرا ِهي َم بْنِ ُم َح َّم ِد بْنِ َس ْع ٍد‬
‫ول ﷲ‬

‫وت الَ إِلَهَ إِالَّ أَن َْت‬
ِ ‫‏ َد ْع َو ُة ِذي ال ُّنونِ إِ ْذ َد َعا َو ُه َو ِف بَطْنِ الْ ُح‬
‫‏ فَ ِإنَّ ُه لَ ْم يَ ْد ُع ِب َها َر ُج ٌل ُم ْسلِ ٌم‬.‫ني‬
‫ُس ْب َحان ََك إِ ِّن كُ ْن ُت ِم َن الظَّالِ ِم َ‏‬
‫اب اللَّ ُه لَ ُ‏ه‬
َ ‫ش ٍء قَ ُّط إِالَّ ْاستَ َج‬
ْ َ ‫ِف‬

Ibrahimbin Muhammad bin Sa'd narrated fromhis father,

fromSa'd that the Messenger of Allah said,
“The supplication of Dhun-Nun (Prophet Yunus) when he
supplicated, while in the belly of the whale was:
La- ila-ha illa- anta subh.a-naka inni kuntu minaz.-z.a-limin
(There is none worthy of worship except You, Glory to You,
Indeed, I have been of the transgressors)
So indeed, no Muslimman supplicates with it for anything,
ever, except Allah responds to him.”

‫أَ ْن أَ ْس َ َّت ب ُِس َّن ِت ِ‏ه‬.
'Abdu'r-Rahman ibn Abi Bakra reported that he said to his father,
"I heard you making this supplication every morning:
'OAllah, make me healthy in my body. OAllah, make me healthy in my
hearing. OAllah, make me healthy in my sight. There is no god but You.'
and repeat it three times in the evening and three times in the morning.
You say, 'OAllah, I seek refuge with You fromdisbelief and poverty.
OAllah, I seek refuge with You fromthe punishment of the grave. There is
no god but You,' and you repeat it three times in the evening and three
times in the morning." He replied, “Yes, my son. I heard the Messenger
of Allah, may Allah bless himand grant himpeace, say themand I like
to follow his sunnah."

‫ َوأَ ْه ِل َو َم ِ ‏‬،‫اي‬
‫ اللَّ ُه َّم ْاس ُ ْت‬.‫ال‏‬ َ ‫الْ َع ْف َو َوالْ َعا ِف َي َة ِف ِدي ِني َو ُدنْ َي‬
،‫‏ اللَّ ُه َّم ا ْح َفظْ ِني ِم ْن بَ ْ ِي يَ َد َّي َو ِم ْن َخلْ ِفي‬.‫ات‬ ‫ َوآ ِم ْن َر ْو َع ِ ‏‬،‫َع ْو َر ِات‬
‫ َوأَ ُعو ُذ ِب َعظَ َم ِت َك ِم ْن أَ ْن‬،‫ َو ِم ْن فَ ْو ِقي‬،‫َو َع ْن َيِي ِني َو َع ْن ِش َم ِل‬
‫أُ ْغتَ َال ِم ْن تَ ْح ِتي‏‬.

Ibn 'Umar said, "The Messenger of Allah did not

omit saying the following words in the morning and evening:
'OAllah, I ask you for well-being in this world and the Next.
OAllah, I ask you for forgiveness and well-being in my deen and in
this world and in my family and my property. OAllah, veil my faults
and calmmy fears. OAllah, give me protection in front of me and
behind me, on my right and my left and above me. I seek refuge by
Your might frombeing overwhelmed fromunder me.' "

The End of Surah al-Baqarah at night

‫‏‬: ‫عن النبي‬ ‫وعن أيب مسعود البدري‬

"‫"‏ من قرأ باآليتني من آخر سورة البقرة يف ليلة كفتاه‏‬
(‫)متفق عليه‬

Abu Mas'ud Al-Badri reported:

I heard the Prophet saying,
"He who recites the two Ayat at the end of Surah Al-Baqarah
at night, they will suffice him."

Recite 3 Quls Surah An-Nas
ِ ‫ق ُْل أَ ُعو ُذ ِب َر ِّب ال َّن‬
‫اس‬
Qul aAAoothu birabbi alnnasi
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,
ِ ‫َملِ ِك ال َّن‬
‫اس‬
Maliki alnnasi
The Sovereign of mankind.
ِ ‫إِلَـٰ ِه ال َّن‬
‫اس‬
Ilahi alnnasi
The God of mankind,
ِّ َ ‫ِمن‬
ِ ‫ش الْ َو ْس َو ِاس الْ َخ َّن‬
‫اس‬
Min sharri alwaswasi alkhannasi
Fromthe evil of the retreating whisperer -
ِ ‫ال َِّذي يُ َو ْسو ُِس ِف ُص ُدو ِر ال َّن‬
‫اس‬
Allathee yuwaswisu fee sudoori alnnasi
Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind -
ِ ‫ِم َن الْ ِج َّن ِة َوال َّن‬
‫اس‬
Mina aljinnati wa alnnasm
Fromamong the jinn and mankind."

Surah Al-Falaq
‫ق ُْل أَ ُعو ُذ ِب َر ِّب الْ َفل َِق‬
Qul aAAoothu birabbi alfalaqi
Say, "I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak
ِّ َ ‫ِمن‬
‫ش َما َخل ََق‬
Min sharri ma khalaqa
Fromthe evil of that which He created
‫ش غ َِاس ٍق إِذَا َوق ََب‬
ِّ َ ‫َو ِمن‬
Wamin sharri ghasiqin itha waqaba
And fromthe evil of darkness when it settles
‫َات ِف الْ ُعق َِد‬ ِّ َ ‫َو ِمن‬
ِ ‫ش ال َّنفَّاث‬
Wamin sharri alnnaffathati fee alAAuqadi
And fromthe evil of the blowers in knots
‫ش َح ِاس ٍد إِذَا َح َس َد‬
ِّ َ ‫َو ِمن‬
Wamin sharri hasidin itha hasada
And fromthe evil of an envier when he envies."
Surah Al-Ikhlas
‫ق ُْل ُه َو اللَّ ُه أَ َح ٌد‬
Qul huwa Allahu ahadun.
Say, "He is Allah, [who is] One,
َّ ‫اللَّ ُه‬
‫الص َم ُد‬
Allahu alssamadu
Allah, the Eternal Refuge.
‫لَ ْم يَلِ ْد َولَ ْم يُولَ ْد‬
Lamyalid walamyooladu
He neither begets nor is born,
‫َولَ ْم يَكُن لَّ ُه كُ ُف ًوا أَ َح ٌد‬
Walamyakun lahu kufuwan ahadun
Nor is there to Himany equivalent."

‫ول بِ َا أُنز َِل إِلَ ْي ِه ِمن َّربِّ ِه َوالْ ُم ْؤ ِم ُنو َن ج ك ٌُّل آ َم َن بِاللَّ ِه َو َم َلئِ َك ِت ِه َوكُتُ ِب ِه َو ُر ُسلِ ِه لَ نُ َف ِّر ُق بَ ْ َي أَ َح ٍد‬
ُ ‫آ َم َن ال َّر ُس‬
‫ِّمن ُّر ُسلِ ِه ج َوقَالُوا َس ِم ْع َنا َوأَطَ ْع َنا صلى ُغ ْف َرانَ َك َربَّ َنا َوإِلَ ْي َك الْ َم ِص ُري‬
Amana alrrasoolu bima onzila ilayhi min rabbihi waalmuminoona kullun amana biAllahi wamalaikatihi wakutubihi warusulihi la nufarriqu
bayna ahadin min rusulihi waqaloo samiAAna waataAAna ghufranaka rabbana wailayka almaseeru
The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to himfromhis Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of themhave believed in Allah and His
angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], "We make no distinction between any of His messengers." And they say, "We hear and we
obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination."

‫ج‬ ‫اخ ْذنَا إِن نَّ ِسي َنا أَ ْو أَ ْخطَأْنَا‬
ِ ‫لَ يُ َكل ُِّف اللَّ ُه نَف ًْسا إِلَّ ُو ْس َع َها ج لَ َها َما ك ََس َب ْت َو َعلَ ْي َها َما اكْتَ َس َب ْت قلى َربَّ َنا لَ ت ُ َؤ‬
َ َ َ‫صا ك ََم َح َملْتَ ُه َع َل ال َِّذي َن ِمن قَ ْبلِ َنا ج َربَّ َنا َولَ ت ُ َح ِّملْ َنا َما َل طَاق‬
‫ة لَنا ِب ِه صلى‬
ً ْ ِ‫َربَّ َنا َولَ تَ ْح ِم ْل َعلَ ْي َنا إ‬
‫َانصنَا َع َل الْ َق ْو ِم الْكَا ِفرِي َن‬
ْ ُ ‫نت َم ْو َلنَا ف‬َ َ‫َوا ْع ُف َع َّنا َوا ْغ ِف ْر لَ َنا َوا ْر َح ْم َنا ج أ‬
La yukallifu Allahu nafsan illa wusAAaha laha ma kasabat waAAalayha ma iktasabat rabbana la tuakhithna in naseena aw akhtana rabbana
wala tahmil AAalayna isran kama hamaltahu AAala allatheena min qablina rabbana wala tuhammilna ma la taqata lana bihi waoAAfu AAanna
waighfir lana wairhamna anta mawlana faonsurna AAala alqawmi alkafireena
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear
[the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. "Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon
us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon
us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people."
