Experiment 1 aimed to review synthesis methods of metal and metal oxide nanoparticles, and applications of nanotechnology in healthcare. Zinc and zinc oxide nanoparticles were synthesized using various methods such as sol-gel, green synthesis, and laser ablation. Characterization showed particles ranging from 10-89 nm. Applications of nanoparticles in healthcare included uses in sunscreen, cancer detection, drug delivery, and imaging, among others. Nanoparticles showed advantages over larger particles such as better uptake, targeted delivery, and increased efficiency. Safety concerns depended on nanoparticle size, concentration, and presence of protective coatings.
