GDP – SPAIN
GDP of Spain
GDP stands for Gross Domestic Product. It is the total value of products produced in a country

during one year. It identifies how healthy and wealthy a country is. GDP is calculated through a

formula. The formula is private consumption + gross investment + government investment +

government spending + (exports – imports). Spain’s GDP for the past 20 years has been fairly

acceptable. Spain’s highest point of GDP in the past 20 years was in 2008 at a whopping 1,635

billion. (Surprising that they had a high GDP in such a financially troubled year). Their lowest

point of GDP in the past 20 years was in 1997 at a teeny 588.7 billion. Yikes! The latest amount

of GDP was in 2016 at a decent 1,232 billion. At least they have something to look forward to.

GDP Per Capita

GDP Per Capita is defined as a measure of a country’s economic output that accounts for its

number of people. It is especially useful when comparing one country to another, because it

shows the performance between countries. GDP per capita is calculated by taking the GDP of a

country and dividing it by the population of that country. Spain’s GDP per capita for the past 20

years can be depicted in the graph below. The highest GDP per capita Spain had was in 2008

again at a high of $35,578.74. The lowest point was in 2000 at $14,676.7. The most current

GDP per capita is in 2016 at $26,528.49.
