ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING

My English language learning began before I went to school. My mother was the
one who taught me English alphabets. I knew the alphabets AZ before I went to
school. In the primary school where I went they taught me single syllable words. In
the secondary school, I felt that my English knowledge was not perfect so I joined
a private institution, where they taught me English in 3 different levels. Firstly I
was taught grammar from the very basics. They also taught me the right syntax
which helped me to construct sentences of my own. The basic course itself gave
me the confidence and foundation to approach English with a positive frame of
mind. At the next level, there were debate and discussion sessions to improve our
fluency levels. We were given topics and asked to speak out on the same, which
gave me further practice to my language skills. At the third level, we had accent
training sessions which were conducted by professionals from different parts of the
country. There we were trained in the basic sounds of English language as well as
the diction, rhythm, intonation and other idiosyncrasies of English language. We
were given sessions in reading, listening and speaking since communication
involves all these elements.

I really feel that English language learning has been quite useful to me because,
English is the lingua franca of the world and knowledge of the same is absolutely
essential for any communication with people outside of India. Also, most of the
high paying jobs are located outside India and If you want to have a decent shot at
these jobs, English is absolutely imperative. I also hope to do higher studies abroad
for which an advanced knowledge of English is a prerequisite. English is also a
scientific language and most of the scientific words have English roots, so English
becomes crucial to know the world around you. English has more vocabulary than
any other language and hence it’s possible for me to express my feelings more
clearly. Finally, English is a language of intellectuals and if you are to be
considered an intellectual, English is a must. Hence English language learning is a
must for me and everyone else.
