CHALLENGE- Compassion

One of our 8 Successful Learner Traits is: Compassion

This will be a focus for the week April 15-April 22

There are many people helping when someone is sick. These include, doctors, nurses, hospital staff such
as people who work x-ray machines or make hospital food, care givers working with older people living
in homes, people who make personal protective gear such as masks, ambulance drivers, fire men and
police officers. These are ‘essential workers.’

There are also many other ‘essential workers’ helping us all to stay safe and at home as much as
possible. They include grocery store workers, car dealership and maintenance workers, pharmacists, pet
store workers, plumbers, and electricians among others.

There are also many people changing their routines and working from home to help the situation and to
keep themselves and others safe and healthy. These include office workers, architects, and teachers.
Maybe your Mom or Dad must work from home too.

There have been some amazing ways people have shown their appreciation and support for their
neighbours, friends and family and all the essential workers. I have seen:

 Chalk drawings or paper creations: hearts, rainbows, happy faces, funny or positive sayings
 Messages on rocks – place in your own gardens or on walks using permanent felts or outside
paint
 White heart campaign – in support, particularly, of health care workers

What other symbols are there to represent unity or coming together?

Two Quotes I like are:

“And the people came together as the world stood still”

“The world came together as the people stayed apart”

Think about these quotes. What do you think they mean? Can you think of more quotes or sayings?

My challenge to you is to create some artwork to represent unity and to show support for your family,
friends and essential workers. Have fun and be creative. Compassion comes in many forms!!
