Nurse Jill is assigned at the oncology ward. She is caring for Mrs. Jones, a 40 y/o a patient
diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Mrs. Jones asked Nurse Jill to call in their family lawyer
to arrange her last will and testament. She also expressed that she wants to donate all the organs
that are still viable for organ donation. Should Mrs. Jones go into cardiac arrest, she does not
want to be resuscitated.
Her lawyer was able to come to the hospital and arranged all the documents that Mrs. Jones
requested. She also instructed the lawyer not to inform her family because she wants to do it
herself. .
After a 3 days, Mrs. Jones went into a coma. The immediate family asked the nurse to call in the
doctor and do everything they can to prolong the life of Mrs. Jones. The attending physician
disagreed and informed the family that Mrs. Jones has a DNR request. The family cried and
threatened that they will be filing a lawsuit.
1. Based on the above given situation, who’s request is the doctor supposed to honor? Cite
