Product Overview

1 Product Overview

This document describes the Digital Unit (DU) for RBS 6000 systems used for
the WCDMA standard.

1.1 Purpose
The DU provides: switching, traffic management, timing, baseband processing,
and radio interfacing.

1.2 Variants
The DU variants are the following:

• DUW 10 01 (Version 2)

• DUW 20 01 (Version 1 and Version 2)

• DUW 30 01 (Version 2)

1.3 Overview
This section provides an overview of the DU, as shown in Figure 1 .

The DU has the following functions:

• Timing function

• Loadable software

• Downlink baseband processing

• Uplink baseband processing

• ATM traffic management

• IP traffic management

• Radio interface

• Transmission handling

2.1 Maintenance Button


The maintenance button is located next to the left of the symbol. It is used
for resetting the DU. When the maintenance button is pressed for 7 seconds or
more, the DU restarts in state OFF or ON, depending on the initial state.

A DUW contains both TX and RX modules. All three variants of the DUW have
the same capabilities, size, modularity, and interfaces. The only difference
is in the baseband capacity.
