Setting and Context

The setting for the proposed project will be in my Target math classroom at Paul D. West

Middle School. Paul D. West is located in the suburban area of East Point, Georgia with the

Fulton County School District. FCS district is a public-school district in Atlanta, Georgia, with a

total of 109 schools, serving 95,641 students. Paul D. West is a Title I school, serving 1,033 6th

through 8th grade students, in which 100% of them live in low income housing and qualify for

free or reduced lunch. The racial demographics are as follows: 64% African American, 32%

Hispanic, 2% Multi-racial, and 2% White.

Organizational historical information can go in this paragraph. Establish information

about the organization of the school (e.g. there is one principal, seven assistant principals, an IB

coordinator, the elementary school classes are departmentalized, etc.). More examples include:

The school was recently renovated. The school has a new principal. The school recently

changed their model to Small Learning Communities. The district is planning to change over to

a charter district next year and teachers are required to attend local council meetings. Describe

district and school-based initiative/requirements/demands (whatever works for your proposal).

District and/or school initiatives (e.g. one to one iPad, blended learning, etc.) include

__________, ___________, and ______________. Describe the initiatives and the expectations

for the teachers and students. (ASK YOURSELF: Do any of these create a need for your

project?) Provide some information about possible problems associated with what is going on at

your school.

This paragraph gets more specific about the context of your proposal. Provide

background information for particular project proposal (e.g. social studies classroom, new

teachers). Whatever you describe here should establish the need or describe the problem at your
[TITLE IN ALL CAPS] 3

school….provide some evidence of why/how this is occurring. Conclude this section with a

statement about whether or not you have received permission to conduct your project in this

setting.

Statement of Problem, Need and Rationale

In the opening paragraph of this section, you will formally present the problem or need

that prompted this intervention/project proposal. To connect this paragraph with the last

paragraph of the first section, you will reference what you mentioned and restate the “problem”

or “need” at your school as a formal problem statement (e.g. The problem that prompted this

Capstone Proposal is……..). THEN you will expand on your description of the problem and

related it to literature.

In the next paragraph(s), you will expand on your description of the problem and related

it to literature. This is probably the most difficult task related to the Capstone. You want to

INTEGRATE literature into what you see happening at your school. What does the research say

about this problem? You will use literature to SUPPORT the problem you see at your school.

In the following paragraph(s), you will discuss the purpose/rationale of the capstone

proposal. Discuss how you want to solve the problem and why this is important to solve the

problem. Use the research literature to support this. For any study you review, you need to

describe the topic of the study, the problem/purpose addressed in the study, the participants, key

results of the study, how it is related to YOUR topic, and flaws/strengths of the study. A brief

review of literature is NOT simply mentioning/citing a study. For any study you review, you

need to describe the topic of the study, the problem/purpose addressed in the study, the

participants, key results of the study, how it is related to YOUR topic, and flaws/strengths of the

study. To MEET expectations, you should use at least 5 articles in the Problem/Rationale
[TITLE IN ALL CAPS] 4

Section. At least 4 of these articles should be peer-reviewed research studies. To EXCEED

expectations, you should use 6 or more peer-reviewed research articles.

Objectives & Deliverables

In the opening paragraph, re-state the problem and purpose of the capstone project. Next

state the overall goal of your project. The goal of this project is to…. Next, make a connection

between the need for the intervention, the objectives, and the deliverables that address this

problem or need.

Objectives

Create a bulleted list of the project objectives. Each objective should be SMART:

Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.

Deliverables

Any objective listed should have a deliverable. Create a bulleted list of the project

deliverables. The deliverable is something that results from a project task which is tied to a

project objective. It is a tangible, measurable output. They establish what the end products from

the project will be. Describe each deliverable and make a connection to how it addresses the

stated objective.

PSC Standards

Provide a rationale for the 2-3 main domains (ex. Standards 1-6) from the PSC/ISTE

Coaching Standards and describe how these standard addresses the main goal of your project

proposal. Then provide a general narrative for the objectives and their connection to SPECIFIC

standards (ex. 1a, 3c, etc.) for that main domain. At the end of this section (after the narrative),

use a table to show the alignment between the objectives and standards. Make sure to use APA

formatting for the table. Refer to the Table 1 in the last sentence of this section.

Project Description

In the opening paragraph, provide a general overview of what this section is

about…..Make a connection to the problem, the objectives, the deliverables, and the standards.

This paragraph is general and the subsequent ones are more specific. The last sentence in this

paragraph should be: The following is a detail description of the activities associated with the

Capstone Proposal and how they are aligned with the aforementioned objectives, deliverables,

and standards.

First Project Item/Activity

[TITLE IN ALL CAPS] 6

Provide a narrative of first part of your project. The narrative should start with the

purpose of this part of the intervention. Describe how this addresses the need/problem, which

stakeholders are involved and how, the objective(s), deliverables, and standards it addressees,

materials needed, AND provide a detailed breakdown of the individual steps/activities and the

time involved to create the materials needed and to implement the intervention.

Second Project Item/Activity

Provide a narrative of second part of your project. The narrative should start with the

purpose of this part of the intervention. Describe how this addresses the need/problem, which

stakeholders are involved and how, the objective(s), deliverables, and standards it addressees,

materials needed, AND provide a detailed breakdown of the time involved to create the materials

needed and to implement the intervention.

Continue sub-sections until all areas of your project are addressed. End this section with

an APA formatted table that summarizes: project item / activity, objective, deliverable, and total

hours (for creation of materials and implementation). Refer to the Table 2 in the last sentence of

the last project activity section.

about…..Make a connection to the problem, the objectives, the deliverables, and the standards.

This paragraph is general and the subsequent ones are more specific.

First Project Item/Activity

Provide a narrative of how the second part of your project would be evaluated if you

could carry out the evaluation plan. The narrative should start with the purpose of the evaluation

and how you determine success. Make a connection between the evaluation method/instrument

and the project objective(s) it will measure. Additionally, provide a detailed breakdown of the

time involved to create the evaluation materials needed and to implement the evaluation of the

intervention.

time involved to create the evaluation materials needed and to implement the evaluation of the

intervention. Continue sub-sections until all areas of your project are addressed.

Project Timeline

Discuss the project timeline. Provide a narrative then an APA formatted table that

summarizes: timeline, project item/activity, timeline, objective, evaluation method/instrument,
