THE MIRACLES OF LADY OF GUADALUPE

Narrator : A very good evening ladies and gentlemen. Peace be with you.
First, we like to welcome you to our parish, Church of Our Lady
of Guadalupe, Puchong. Tonight, we will present a story of the
miracles of Lady of Guadalupe.

Pupils A : It was before dawn on a chilly morning on 9th December 1531,

an Aztec Indian named Juan Diego hurried to Mass. As he
reached a little hill, suddenly he saw, there stood a woman who
shone like the sun! She spoke to him with love. She asked him
to go to the Bishop and told him to build a church where she said
“I will show and offer all of my love, my compassion, my help and
my protection to my people.” Juan Diego did as she asked, but
the Bishop asked for a sign that this message was really from
Our Lady. (Pic 1 – image of Lady of Guadalupe)

Pupils B : Mary granted the Bishop’s request. On December 12, she

showed Juan where the most beautiful Castilian roses were and
told him to gather them. It was a miracle that the roses were
there because there was frost on the ground, and the ground
was an infertile place where only cactus and thistles grew. After
he gathered them, she helped arrange them in his tilma, and told
him to show them to the Bishop. (Pic 2 Rose plant on snow)

Pupil A : This miracle, perhaps the most important miracle of all is when
Juan Diego opened his tilma to release the roses. As the roses
fell to the ground a miraculous image of the Lady appeared on
the tilma. The Bishop needed no other sign. A church was built,
and devotion was spread to the Lady, known as Our Lady of
Guadalupe, Mother of our Lord, Jesus Christ. (Pic 3 – image of
falling roses with tilma).

Narrator : Millions converted to the faith. If you travel to Mexico City, you
can see this tilma that has not been disintegrated even after 460
years. Many scientists and doctors have examined the tilma and
have concluded that it is beyond explanation. It is a miracle.
What our Lady proclaimed to Juan Diego many years ago, is still
true today, “Am I not here who is your Mother?”

Pupil B : Th next miracle is the image that has lasted and shows no signs
of deterioration. Juan Diego's tilma is made of a rough cactus
fibre which normally disintegrates in 15 to 30 years. (Pic 4 of a
normal tilma) Yet, the image of Guadalupe has remained intact
for 484 years without fading or cracking. It is six-and-a-half feet
long by forty-two inches wide and has a seam running down the
middle. Moreover, it was exposed to candle smoke for many
years and once spillage of strong nitric acid onto a large portion
of the image which should have enhanced the process of
deterioration. (Pic 5 Tilma with OLOG)
.
In addition, in 1921 a bomb concealed in some flowers was
placed on the altar directly under the image. When the bomb
detonated, the marble altar rail and windows 150 feet away were
shattered, a brass crucifix was twisted out of shape, but the
image was left unharmed. (Pic 6 bomb in flowers)

Narrator : Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, isn’t it amazing to hear the
many miracles of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Let us hear more of
her wonders, …

Pupils A : Did you know the stars that appear on the image are
astronomically correct. (Pic 6 the stars). In 1983 Dr. Juan
Homero Hernandez and Fr. Mario Rojas Sánchez discovered
that the stars on the image correspond precisely to the
gatherings of the winter sky on December 12th, 1531. Incredibly,
the gatherings are shown as viewed from outside the heavens,
in other words in reverse. It is as if we have a picture from
someone looking at it from outside the universe, it is a snapshot
of heaven and earth from the very moment that Juan Diego saw
Our Lady.

Pupils B : The next miraculous feature concerning the image is its

temperature. It is a demonstrable fact that no matter what the
surrounding temperature, season, or weather, the image
remains at an even 36.5°C or 98.6°F, the normal temperature of
the human body.

Pupil A : And finally, the miracle of Mary’s eyes is astonishing life like.
The iris and the pupils of the image's eyes have imprinted on
them a highly detailed picture of at least 13 people, said Jose
Aste Tonsmann and engineer and research from the Mexican
Centre of the Guadalupan Studies. The same people are present
in both the left and right eyes, in different proportions, as would
happen when human eyes reflect the objects before them. It is
believed that the reflection transmitted by the eyes of the Virgin
of Guadalupe is the scene on Dec. 9, 1531, during which Juan
Diego showed his tilma, with the image, to Bishop Juan de
Zumárraga and others present in the room, (Pic 7 images in the
eyes)

Narrator : Juan Diego's tilma was placed inside the church of known as
The Basillica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, the shrine founded on
the original site on the Tepeyac Hill in Mexico City. The picture on the
cloak is still as bright as it was that day in December 1531. The
original tilma of Saint Juan Diego, now hangs above the high altar of
the Guadalupe Basilica. The image is protected by bulletproof glass
and low-oxygen atmosphere. Now everyone could see this sign of
God's care for the poor and needy. Juan Diego came to live at the
church. Many people visited it. He prayed with them until the day he
died. That was more than 500 years ago. But crowds of people are still
coming to the church, near and far. (Pic 8 tilma in the Basillica)
