The EdD program is a three-year 90-credit program, including 30 credits transferred from relevant graduate Catalog Home
work. Students are required to transfer 30 credits of graduate work into the EdD program.
Course Information
The EdD curriculum is delivered in several stages, through a variety methods:
Class Search
Orientation: The EdD cohort participates in a full-day, on campus, orientation in the spring before the

summer start of the program. The day includes a welcome from the Dean of the School of Education, EdD
program information, and cohort-building activities as well as an introductory session with other students
in your Area of Concentration. Orientation typically takes place in April.
One-week intensive on ramp: The EdD cohort will participate in a full-week, on campus, experience that

includes intense work focused on understanding enduring problems of practice in education, health, and Catalogs
human development. This one-week experience, known as the “on-ramp”, will be your rst foundations
course on framing, identifying, and investigating problems of practice. The on-ramp typically takes place in Bradford Campus Catalog

Hybrid seminars: You will experience a hybrid model of education through online course experiences and Catalog
in-person, once per month (typically on Saturdays) sessions on the Pittsburgh campus. Attendance at in-

The new course will combine related topics from ADMPS 2115, IL 3571, and IL 3501. Credits / Units: 3
Beginning in fall 2019, EdD Special Education students will be able to simultaneoulsy complete the
requirements for the PA Supervisor of Special Education certi cation within the existing 60 credits of the
EdD Program. They may also opt to complete the EdD without adding the Supervisor of Special Education
PDE certi cation.
Students pursuing both the EdD and Supervisor of Special Education PDE certi cation will take 3 total
credits of IL 3596 Internship in Special Education over the course of three semesters, instead of EDUC 3012
Supervised Internship. These students will be expected to follow internship guidelines and requirements
established for the Supervisor of Special Education PDE certi cation. Students not electing to, or not
quali ed to complete the Supervisor of Special Education certi cation will not take IL 3596, and will instead
take EDUC 3012 Supervised Internship.
Students choosing for EdD/Supervisor of Special Education PDE certi cation program will need to pass all
required courses in the plan of studies and maintain a 3.0 GPA or better in addition to completing program
benchmarks (See Appendix A). Students planning to apply for the Supervisor of Special Education
certi cation are also required to pass the PRAXIS II examination in Educational Leadership: Administration
and Supervision (Test Code 5411) in order to be certi ed.
