Durkheim and functionalism

Durkheim spend a lot of his time to study religions of small societies. According to his point of

view with context to society religion influence the thinking and behavior of society members. He

also argued that religion not only concern a belief but it also co relates with ceremonies and

rituals on the group of believers which develop solidarity. For rituals he said they bind the

member of groups and allow them to experience something different from daily life. All the

aspects laid the foundations of function of society.

Introduction:

Eid ul Fitr is basically festival of breaking fast it’s celebrated after the month of Ramadan in

which Muslim fast for one month. Muslim celebrate this as a reward of the fasting and the good

deeds they have done in the month of Ramadan. It begins with sighting the new moon and the

next day Muslim offer an Eid prayer followed by sermon. Before the sunset of eid payment of

fitrana is obligatory to pay by the rich ones to the poor’s so they can celebrate the festival too.

The amount of fitrana is estimated by the price of wheat in that year. Which is equals to three

and half kilo gram of wheat. After the moon of shawl is sighted the next morning people pray

Eid prayer followed by the sermon. People dress up in new cultural clothes and traditions were

followed on this event. This eid is also known as methi eid so huge amount of sweets were

cooked in houses. Family lunches are arranged and a ration of eidi giving money to other as Eid

greeting is followed. The festival is all about happiness joy and colours.

Analysis

The festival promotes the brother hood equality tolerance and importance of religious

believes. The spirit of Eid that goes with the cultural and religious believes provide a gate

way to mend the broken ties among relatives and to promote brotherhood and love. All over

the world Muslims tie their cultural customs with the common religious customs and

belives.The event promotes cultural harmony among the Muslims. It breaks the class system

and bring all the poor and rich people on a same page practising same values and believing

same rituals.

Conclusion:

We have observed on these festivals the following of same traditions and same believes form

ages. Eid ul fitr promote peace, harmony, brotherhood, equality and peace. It influence the

thinking of people and tie up the knots of the broken relations. It process the pain of poor’s in

rich’s heart and bring them on one page .It spread happiness and peace which results in the

foundation of happy and peaceful society. It linked the people of all classes and eliminate the

concept of power which brings justice and equality of society. The cultural norms and

tradition practice save the ethnicity and strong the believes and foundation of the groups in

society which promote acceptance and harmony.

The structural functional theory narrates that family is back bone of a society. Which has

three main elements

 Socialization

 Regulation of sexual activity

 Social placement

According to sociologist family is the vital and important in the child rearing .Parents

healthy relationship gives a positive booster to a grown kid. Which provide him positive

attitude to interact in society.marraige is process which leads the foundation of family it

combines two individual to regulate the sexual activities and make their place in society

to carry their race and give them chance to inherit there traits and power to their off

springs.

Introduction

Marriage is a socially supported union which involve two or more individuals regarding a stable

and enduring arrangements based at least in part on a sexual bond of some kind. Marriages in our

society are the connection between two families and individual of same class colour and creed

.This three day event is celebrated according to religious and cultural values. The phenomena

combines two individuals and give them the position of separate family in society. They produce

thee off springs. In this way they protect the property ethnicity and cultural values.

Analysis

It’s been analysed that marriage lead the foundation of a new family the couple produce there off

springs and run the system of their family. The old custom, believes and traditions are passed to

their new baby in this way they protect their family background and carry on the rituals to the

new off spring’s .The sexual activity increases the race of a specific group from which the

parents belong and the property of the forefathers is passed to them. In each society family

It’s been concluded that families plays important role in socialization as kids learn from parents,

parents also learn from them and that’s how family socialize at initial stages and later on a social

level. Sexual activity of family maintains the kinship organization and property rights. On their

personal social identity—in terms of race, ethnicity, religion, and social magnificence—to their

youngsters at birth. Marital and emotional protection. Many humans view the own family as a

“haven in a heartless world,” supplying physical safety, emotional guide, and monetary help.

Perhaps this is why people dwelling in families have a tendency to be happier, healthier, and

wealthier than people dwelling on my own.

Hajj a Muslim activity is performed on 9th of zilhaj every year in the Holly city of

Makkah.Pilligrams from all over the world come to that once place and perform the compulsory

actions of haj.The heartwarming event unites all the muslim of country and break the idol of cast

colours and breed which develop the love ,brotherhood and peace on international level.They

live together and practice the same thing different groups of different culture perform one

specific ritual which held them together .

Eid ul adha is celebrated as festival of sacrifice which is celebrated in the memory of the great

sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim .When Allah ordered Him to sacrifice his most beloved thing in

Allah’s way. This festival is celebrated on the 10 Zillahaj of Islamic calendar when all the

affording people sacrifice an animal in the way of Allah in order to remember the great sacrifice

of Islamic history. After the animal is slaughtered in the way of Allah the meat is equally

distributed in three parts one for family, one for relatives and friends and the third one for poor’s

and needy. The pilgrims perform haj on 9th of zilhaj and after that they sacrifice an animal in

Allah’s way too. People celebrate this festival with full zeal and zest .New clothes were made

and traditonals rituals were done women put henna on their hands and wore bengals where as

men offer eid prayer and in mosque every muslisn stand right by side of each other whoch

breaksthe idol of cast color and ethnicity.

Analysis:

From the social perspective, a large number of individuals seek Hajj from everywhere

throughout the world having various races, shading, having a place with various nations and

communicating in various dialects. They all come to perform Hajj and follow the ceremonies in a

similar way to display that there is no distinction in Islam between people based on riches, race,

and statement of faith, language and district.

From the perspective of culture, Hajj unites individuals of various societies together. It achieves

expanded understanding various societies and joins individuals by guaranteeing common regard

and agreement. It grows individuals' vision and causes them to suit and leave their inclinations

first at the sacred spot and afterward this shared concordance is propagated after one encounters

life away from common issues, wearing un-sewed garments, utilizing no methods for decoration
